Wholeheartedly agree Wallbash - but some aren't as confident as us long-timers and just need a bit of reassurance which PPE will give them ;)

I really don't know. Would it give some reassurance ? or would it just put them off?
Lets hope some one comes up with their experiences, if its a choice between £20 and an expensive visiting 'expert' ........get yourself down to screwfix.

You could always get it tested, see if it is or not, then you know if you have to worry.

However, just taken out a bunch of asbestos floor tiles. No major deal, just wet things down, and use a proper mask. I've given up on coveralls as none of them fit me, and they just break.

RE British Gas - avoid them like the plague. The number of threads on here where they're clearly massively up-selling the customer. Then they do completely stupid stuff.

For instance, they replaced my grandmothers old Potterton floor standing boiler (similar age to yours). Just wacked a WB in, no thought about how clean the system would be. Queue the thing packing in a week later as the pump was full of sludge. They also charged a ridiculous amount of money.

The general rule is 'if you think its asbestos, get it checked out'. You cannot take a sample yourself, so you would need to employ the services of a specialist.

Asbestos needs to be double bagged and the outer bag needs to be labelled with the words 'Asbestos' in huge lettering.

Also, not every tip will take asbestos and the fine for getting caught throwing it in the skip is quite large. It also means the tip has to close whilst specialists move in to deal with it.

Better to pay a specialist to remove it in the first place. Probably cost less than the cost of the PPE anyway, especcially if you can find one who is working on a job in your area who can just pop over and deal with it.

Or you could just assume it is asbestos and treat it accordingly, saving the cost of paying someone to tell you that it is.

Then you check with your local council to see what facilities they have for disposing of it safely without causing a massive hazardous waste incident. I would expect it to cost nothing to dispose of small amounts of asbestos sheet.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Most councils have at least one facility which will accept waste asbestos from residents ( for me in Cheshire it is the tip at Neston) and normally instructions on how it is packaged. Get on your council website and look or give the waste disposal department a ring
