Equifax

  • Thank you, HereBeDragons! Love the user name, do you read Terry Pratchett? Now I've started the complaints procedure I think I need not to interfere with that. The problem is, Equifax need to be made to demonstrate where their information came from. My asking for it to be corrected is a procedure full of holes. I can't disprove it because you can't prove or disprove a negative, it's logically impossible.

Hello pastafarian. I've never quite gotten around to reading Terry Pratchett - the user name is more a reference to the old saying.

    Two things:
    1. do you really need to create an account with Equifax? Why not just order your statutory report - it contains all the info you need.

    2. Saying anyone would conclude they're a rogue company trying to scam the gullible is a bit harsh - you're just encountering the unfortunate facelessness of a modern business who outsource things like customer service to the Far East, and have procedures for validating people's identities online which aren't very good. It's frustrating, but lots of companies are badly set up like this. That's why I suggest you forget signing up for an Equifax account and just go the written statutory report route - you won't have to engage with any of their rubbish online/telephone rigmarole, and you won't have to go through the complaints procedure you've embarked on. Life's too short sometimes. Their postal address for requesting a statutory report is easy to find on their website.

I'll PM you some info on their office in Wexford - you might have some luck with them, or be able to talk through your complaint with a sensible human being.

@HereBeDragons - In response to your question 1, I have only ever had my statutory reports from Equifax & Experian (use Noddle for CallCredit). In order to use the immediate download of the Equifax statutory report I had to create an account. I couldn't see any option to do the immediate statutory report without creating an account first. I assume it's so that they can try an sell you other services. As you say it is possible to download a form and get the report by post but that just seem so old fashioned.

Once you do manage to set up an account it is very difficult to buy future statutory reports, as with Experian and CallCredit their main aim is to sell you a subscription service.
