External monitor for Inspiron 6400?

Is it possible to hook up an external monitor for the Inspiron 6400 and what type please? Where's the port (if there is one)?
I have a limited budget but would like a decent, matte screen monitor, prob 19" or whatever works well with widescreen. I think the 6400 is widescreen. I read somewhere that 17" monitors don't work well in widescreen and to choose a monitor which syncs nicely with widescreen (?!).
I know if I ring Dell they will try to convince me that only the most expensive will work fine.
thanks for any advice.

You're Inspiron should have a VGA port (I don't have a dell laptop, but it probably does) at the back or one of the sides.

Is that blue VGA port for an analogue or digital monitor? I haven't started looking yet. There's a lot out there, some digital - assume that's no good? - some not. Something with a really clear matte screen, good for photos and TV etc. Any suggestions? That Acer's not glossy is it? I would look for somewhere other than Pixmania as had a bad experience with them once.0
