in Cutting tax
Hello Everyone,
I have been working for a company for a couple of years now. After calling HMRC recently they say they I have never worked for this company before. Tax and NI is being taken so I am unsure what it is happening.
Also on my first ever payslip it says my NI number, and the couple of years after all payslips and p60's have no NI number just a letter.
Do HR have to provide me with the NI on my p60 also?
Any help is appreciated please.

Your NI number and deductions made must be shown on the P60. It looks like your payroll have fouled up somewhere, it is very important that you get it sorted - no NI = no state pension or contribution based benefits !0

Thank you very much for your reply appreciated greatly.
Would I need to contact HMRC myself or would HR have to do this as I need to get rebates etc?
Would it be my fault for this error also I never changed any information I gave to them?0 -
Do you have the P60s for the years you have worked for this company?
Write to HMRC with copies of these documents and ask why they have no record of your tax and NI for the years in question.

Thanks for the reply.
Also I have been told, It appears that payroll didnt have my NI number so the information wasnt added to my payslip etc.
But then I am confused as to where my tax and NI is going to?0 -

Your P60 should show your PAYE reference and your NI number - I have never seen one that didn't!

What is this letter that is shown in your NI number box?0 -

But if it was shown on your first payslip, payroll must have had it!
Send a copy of the payslip with your letter to HMRC.0 -
Thanks again.
It is just the letter A that's appeared after the first ever payslip for an NI number.
On a side not am I right in thinking that the NI is the only thing that has to be correct for tax etc to be taken?
The strange thing is that HMRC said they haven't taken tax from me even though my NI is right on my first ever payslip.
I have never changed any details from when I first joined also so I'm not sure why they would have messed it up so easily.0 -
Also what is the correct thing I would say to HR?
As all my details are exactly the same from first joining I feel as though I am being lied to.
Should I call them out on the mistake they have made or go straight to HRMC?0 -
If your employer is legit, their HR dept (or secretary or co. owner) would get this sorted inside a day. If they don't cooperate with getting it sorted immediately then that are not legit and something very fishy is going on. Ask your employer.0

Thanks again,
I have got my p60's, I can see my name is wrong by one letter, my address is correct but no DOB is shown also.0
