Late payment

Options
I opened a store card in december. I have used it once and paid off as soon as the statement came through, just as I do with my credit card every month. I did not receive a statement last month and so it was not at the front of my mind, and I forgot to pay (working full time with two kids and a husband that works away.....I;m bound to forget something sometimes I suppose). Payment date was 5 days ago.
I have just received my next statement with a late payment fee attached.
I have called the company and explained, and they have refunded the fee as a gestures of goodwill and I have paid the balance in full and set up direct debit.

Will this late payment marker still go on my credit file.....this is what is my biggest worry! I'm so annoyed at myself!!

It depends on when they report and whether they reported it or not. A fee refund doesn't necessarily mean the missed payment isn't reported.

Check your credit files to be sure.

    Thank you for the reply.

What do you mean by when they report, are there any reasons why they would not report it. Gosh I am praying they don't report it.

    This is what equifax say.....

If you have a payment that is more than 30 days late, your creditor may report it to the credit reporting agencies (CRAs). In this case, the late payment can show up on your credit report and be factored into your credit score. Late payments will be listed on your credit report depending on how late they are: 30 days late, 60 days late, 90 days late, 120 days late, 150 days late, or charged off.

so my payment was 5 days late, hopefully this means it wont be reported.

A singe late payment will have a negligible impact on your credit history ime. I had one and still got mortgage, CC etc etc within 12 months. Repeated ones will make a difference.

Alaways Always Always set up a DD to pay off the minimum at least.

When in the month they send the monthly update.

By the time yo u get a statement with a late payment marker there is a reasonable chance it may have already been sent to the credit reference agency. If so then it would be worth asking if they will agree to remove it as another goodwill gesture. If they won't then if this is an isolated incident the impact of it will lessen in a few months.
