This is why people buy canon, they would have just fixed the camera and very rarely cry off about repairs under warranty, however Nikon are the opposite as the evidence supports.

Nope. In most cases people buy Canon because they are seen as the best brand and at the pro level they are very good, below that level they are relatively poor.

A heck of a lot of professionals will disagree with you on this.

A heck of a lot of professionals will agree with you on this.

    :rotfl:

Sorry to hear about your experience OP - nothing helpful to add except to reiterate the advice to go a bit higher than the store - and maybe begin a twitter/facebook campaign if your reply takes too long.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. Hopefully I'll be getting some answers soon. :)

Update: Got an email from Nikon today apologising profusely for the vague report.

    They say:

"there is a crack in the casing next to the connection ports and the workshop are certain this is what has caused the fault to the LCD screen. Unfortunately, this has invalidated the warranty and we have estimated the unit for a repair.

As a gesture of goodwill I am willing to reduce the cost of repairs and a revised estimate will be forwarded to your dealer shortly."

So I took this in to PCW today as no one there has even bothered to attempt to contact Nikon. they have taken all the info (some of which they already have 2 copies of - sigh) and said they will run it through customer services and the store manager and have an answer for me early next week when he's back in.

He agreed that the system and the form says the camera was inspected by their staff member and noted as having no damage just a screen fail as reported by us. He then went on to say it doesn't automatically mean they are liable, I told him either they, the courier or Nikon are and he just smiled.

I'm confident we'll get this sorted. Nikon took 25% off the cost of the repair for some reason. So least it will cost someone less!

The problem you are likely to have now is that you took the camera in with a faulty LCD screen, Nikon have determined that this is caused by a crack in the casing, therefore whether PCW saw and marked down the damage may be irrelevant. If the crack wasn't there the LCD screen would still be working and you wouldn't have needed to take it in for repair in the first place.

It would also depend on what the crack looks like, it could be a very fine hairline crack not noticeable in store but noticeable at the repair centre when stripped down.

They said they sent me photos but they weren't attached so no doubt PCW will get hold of them.

If someone at PCW misses a crack then that's their fault not mine. However I can categorically tell you now that they "missed it" because it didn't exist. :)

Of course some on here will think I'm lying which is fine, only matters to me what the real story is. :)

As I said, I'm confident it will get sorted, didn't say how or by how. At least now things are moving which is all I wanted at this stage.

Also the business manager I spoke to repeatedly confirmed they are having no end of trouble with their couriers breaking things, even showed me some advertising panels delivered that day which was broken/bent out of shape and said it's happening too often.

That may well have been to appease me but either way we'll be getting some answers next week. :)

Due to lots of people being off at the shop we bought this from it got dragged out but PCW agree that the damage must have been caused after we dropped it off and it's irrelevant as to what may have caused the original fault now as the camera has been damaged whilst not in our possession.

It will be back with them by the end of the week and replaced with a new one for us to pick up :)

New camera picked up this week, they said it was store credit so we could have actually got anything but still wanted the same camera. :)

Thanks to all who contributed in helping me.
