Mistake at till - Morrisons

Yesterday I went to Morrisons and made a mistake at the till (it was the self-checkout), putting an item twice (an employee was helping me). It was a fish fillet that cost £5, I realised today while checking the receipt.

Is there anything I can do? I can't prove I didn't take 2 fillets :(

You can go back to the store and talk to them ?

Whether you get any money back is probably down to the discretion of the shop manager/staff

I'd give customer services a ring myself - always find I have more luck with the call centres than I do with employees in-store.

This has happened to me at Tesco and when I went back they refunded me the 2nd one.
I've also had poor quality when having home delivery (various stores) and tweeted the company with a picture and had money back.
    They're usually very good.

Thanks, I will give it a go..
  • Ask them to check the CCTV - all self checkouts are monitored closely.

It's a well-known problem with barcode scanners. If the item is still in range, they'll detect and scan it twice.

Some supermarkets instruct their operators not to scan multiple items consecutively, so that such errors are easily identifiable.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

The OP was using a SELF SERVICE till which once the item is scanned won't allow any other items to be scanned until its placed in the "bagging area" for the weight to be checked. So if the barcode indicates 326gr (of Halibut) the till and scanner lock until 326gr is added to the customers bag.

Yes a store helper can override this and maybe thats whats happened here but the store will be able to check weights even though they're not listed on the receipt.

An newspaper article a while back noted that a very very high proportion of the claimed "double scan" errors that customers reported were for high value items i.e bottles of spirits, razors, meat etc. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions without drawing any aspersions on the OP.

Sorry but your being a bit harsh here and could be wrong.

I mainly use the self service tills and quite often have had an item go through twice and without needing to be "placed in the bagging area". Don't ask me how it works but it has happened and a few times.
It can happen, it does happen and your judgement on the OP actually speaks more about you to others than the OP does by asking for help. It seems a bit harsh and uncalled for.

If the store are in any doubt they can and will check the CCTV, it is remarkably easy to do this as the date and time will be in the receipt to which with most CCTV cameras can be pretty quickly traced back and viewed. If the OP is trying to pull a fast one, they only affect themselves if the store decide to check which they can easily do.

I you want to jump in feet first and accuse me of insinuating that the OP is a thief then I think that says more about you than anything else.

I have just offered some alternative facts that suggest that double scanning items is next to impossible (yet it appears a common occurrance for you) and that the vast majority of claims for refunds for double scanning relate to 'high value' items such as meat, drink, toiletries etc. which co-incidentially are requested days after the event rather than at the time of the actual alleged double scanning.

My brother-in-Law writes EPOS software and he would be genuinely interested in speaking to you regarding the circumstances of your double scanning.... want to private message?

Was it a fish sold by weight ? If so , it is highly unlikely to get 2 that cost exactly the same, so may be an obvious double scan
