DD has rented out her house whilst she is working in Thailand. Letting agents have just sent a statement for the taxman of income and expenditure.
Ignoring the exorbitant cost of the letting the 2 sheets of computer generated paper (including post) was £66.00
The most expensive bit of paper I have ever had.
ps. they won't be around much longer when DD comes back for summer hols.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Didn't someone have to spend time (hence cost) enter the details into the computer in the first place?0

Dont forget other costs apart from the 2 pieces of paper and ink.
Shop rent, shop rates, gas, electricity, water, internet, telephone, equipment cost, equipment maintenance, consumables, staff wages, decor, furnishings, insurance etc etc etc0 -
Do these not come out of the 65 a month we pay them to do this sort of thing?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The job of an agent is to soak up the profit from a deal they arrange. £65/month is less than some charge, so maybe they're bidding low and making it up on the frills, Ryanair-style.0 -
Now that retirement looms I'll be taking on the task myself. I've got a few months of learning and getting advice from others in similar position. DD let the house whilst abroad and just charged enough to pay the mortgage and the fees. By doing it myself it will give her some more flexibility as the slightest repair job puts the account in the red. Cue Dad to the rescue.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I had the same thing - thought it was nice of them to summarise it all in one statement, but when I saw the invoice, I realised how much of a fool I'd been. Especially as I get monthly statements anyway, I wish I could opt out!0

DD home in June and we'll be trying to opt out then. I hope they don't try to con us with an exit fee.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Letting agents = Legalised theft! Unlike estate agents, letting agents are totally unregulated so they can write their own T&Cs and rip-off landlords and tenants!!0
