Nook HD+ not switching on

I bought a refurbished Nook HD+ six months ago and have been pleased with it for reading books and watching catchup tv.
However it now won't switch on unless plugged in which rather defeats the object. The battery is fully charged and the screen starts but then goes black. Any advice what to do would be appreciated.

It's the battery, i'm no doubt whatsoever.
It's overall capacity has been diminished or it simply isn't charging.
So what happens if you turn it on whilst plugged in and then disconnect it once started (after about 5 mins)?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Looks like it can be replaced for under £20. If you're not confident doing it yourself, take it to a local phone repair shop who should be able to sort you out.

Thanks for both replies. I was resigned to a new battery but I tried the suggestion of switching it on via charger and seeing how long it stayed on and it has so far lasted 12 hours with little battery reduction!
However switching off and switching on still is a problem so does this mean the power switch is the culprit?0 -
Could be the power switch. Again it's something that could be replaced (I couldn't find the part from a quick look) but a phone shop or electrician could have a poke at the button and bodge some kind of repair.0
