Phone Contracts and Payment Dates

OH got a text saying contract payment had failed. He rang up and paid it (was due to be taken on the Thurs he got the message on the following Tues).
With the company I have a contract with, I pay on the 15th of the month but the bill isn't due til the end of the month, so I don't imagine it would matter as long as I paid before the end of the month. The person OH spoke to on the phone had no idea what he was on about when OH was asking if it would be classed as a late payment etc and just said well its paid so that's that. That's why he hasn't called back to ask again.
Payment failed due to card being stolen and therefore cancelled. I didn't know contract phones could be done to your card, mine have always been sort code and a/c number. So it isn't as though there was a lack of funds etc.
Anyone got any experience as to whether a failed payment by card like this will adversely affect him, or do we really need to ring them up again and ask?

It could possibly be recorded as a missed payment on his credit file.
It may well not be given the timescale but he won't know for sure unless he can get them to confirm (or check his file in a month).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
