I want to know anyone who has used a claims managament company, because I have done some PPI myslef and have had limited sucess, but I have to say MBNA are terrible to deal with,
I have had letters for other people sent to me, when I phone they ask me for my password (this I set up in 1998!!!)
letter asking for more information (I have give them account details and address and an old statement)
and they just keep delaying...
HAD ENOUGH!
so want to hand to a Claims Management Company...but one that has a low fee and Quick to see If I have a claim?

Any ideas anyone??

I am very new to this so somebody with more experience may say this is wrong, but why don't you just fill out the questionnaire on the Financial Ombudsman's website and send that to MBNA?

They then have a few days to acknowledge and eight weeks to respond.

I wouldn't waste 30% ish on a CMC when that's all they're going to do anyway. The questionnaire took me about 15 minutes to complete.

    I have!
They dont want to deal with it!
  • If it's more than 8 weeks since you first complained you have the right to refer to FOS, from what you say this is an option you should be seriously considering, IMO. Please don't use a CMC, they are a waste of your money as the poster above says.

Firstly, none have a low fee. :D

Any questions that need to be asked will need to be addressed by you. Even if they go through the CMC, you are the only person who will have the answers.

Think of the old adage ... Cut out the middleman.

Plenty of horror stories on here from people using a CMC.

Just do a Forum Search in the top menu bar.

So basically you don't kno if you had PP|I or not then?

In which case you have to send a SAR and £10 to them to see what details they have.

Follow the method for closed accounts if they are closed.

If you have already made a complaint and got nowhere simply pass it to the FOS and let them deal with it. As you have already made the complaint all a CMC will do is forward it to the FOS (they might try and raise a new one but as you already have one it'll be dealt with that way) - do you really want to lose 30+% (and VAT on top) simply for one quick phone call?

CMC are not magicians and have no special power or weight on complaints, there's a fair chance they won't even bother chasing, just send a complaint off and sit back and watch the money pour in thanks to people sucked into their myth about the "service" they offer.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Fill in the form at this web page. The people there will charge you a very reasonable fee of nothing!
  • MBNA keep sending me automated letters direct, do you not get these? couldn't make it easier to do a claim back I think DIRECT, I've had a couple come though with a Harlow address I'm sure, last mailing was only a couple of weeks back, wish I could be bothered : /

Hi I had dealings with MBNA they were unhelpful so I completed the form for the FOS and left it to them.

The FOS upheld my complaint and I received a cheque for around £26K.

Don't give up and remember all the info you put on the form you will still need to give to a claims company.

It really isn't worth using a company.

    Just complete the form.
  • Under no circumstances use a claims company.
