If you call abbey back and get an indemnity done you'll have the money back in your account same day.

"Amount not due" is the reason code they should use to put it through as Sainsburys told you it wouldn't be needed.

I'm with deemy2004, I don't trust any company to get these things right so I make all my payments manually. Takes a bit more effort but well worth it in my opinion. Even if a DD fails to be taken out, and any overpayment/fees eventually refunded, you'll automatically get a late payment mark on your credit report which will take an enormous amount of effort to put right. That's assuming the bank involved is willing to help.

Sad state of affairs but that's how it is :(

I don't personally agree with deemy or charlie on this. I have very, very rarely had DD errors, and they have normally been my fault (normally forgetting to set them up on new card accounts - doh!).

In every case where there's been a mistake, the amount has been sorted out, and the card company has corrected their payment history. They will ALL do this if it's their mistake and they are obliged to do so.

By paying manually, you are losing a number of days' interest - 10 if you follow deemy's advice and pay 10 days earlier to reduce the risk of late payment. And you are relying on manual processes compared to efficient, automated, DD.

Fair enough Marky, I guess we all base our opinions on personal experience. I'm sure the vast majority of DD payments go through without problem, and that most companies correct payment history in reasonable time. I guess I'm just a little paranoid :)
  • Frankly, if you can draft a letter detailing all the problems you have had and how it has not been dealt with over the phone then i would go one step further and say that seeing as you have had so much trouble with them you are now looking for compensation in the form of a reduced rate from x% to y% as well for your trouble which you will accept as a reasonable form of apology and a gesture of goodwill.
  • it seems that sainsbury's bank are full of problems. I opened an internet savings account and deposited £2k on the 26th April and to date (10th may) they cant find the money... what annoys me is, I cant get any answers to any of my questions when I phone they either keep me holding on for 15 to 20 mins and then they cut me off or if I e-mail I do not get any answers so what can I do to get my money back???? Some answers from sainsbyry's Bank would be a start !!! SO INVESTORS,,, BEWARE !!!!

make sure you keep a copy of all your e-mails and dates/times of your calls. Print them all out and send them to the CES of sainsbury's bank with a covering letter explaining your situation. demand that your money be found and then take it else where.

I say - vote with your feet!!!!

oh, and good luck, hope the money turns up

  • Just a wee update:

Got a phonecall from Sainsbury's this morning in response to my letter. They have refunded the money to my account and have refunded all the late payment fees that I received and are very apologetic. I wonder if we have any Sainsbury's Bank lurkers here....!?
It is not the bullet with your name on it, rather the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that should worry you!
