extension

not the best pics but a little update for our extension. Its nearly finished ....little bit of snagging but we're very pleased and its added about 30m2 to our downstairs space.

will try and post internals but it was about £30k altogether. thatll include patio and we also dug out 100m2 driveway which we never intended so i think we'll have probably saved money doing as much ourselves and subbing out the work.

Didn't find project managing it difficult with a 8 week old baby and working full time. May have got a little better finish with an architect on board but we're very happen with it.

this is in herts within m25

    Looks great!

Where did you go for your bi folding doors?

    Thanks :)

they were from the bi fold shop which is the shop arm of customade.

they were stock doors ~4x2m with integral blinds and we built the aperture to fit the doors. We got them fitted by them as it made more sense to have a guarantee and they were £3k.

We'd probably prefer an access door as these ones all fold but its no big deal for us and they look great!

I probably rang about 10-15 suppliers and asked them all if they had anything in stock around those measurements, so it worked out very well.

I thought it was expensive! I was trying to highlight that although not for everyone there are ways of reducing costs. The main issue I have is with labour. I don't begrudge anyone making a living but it infuriates me when someone gives me a price for work and they won't tell me the materials and labour cost. For instance an electrician ( a friend ) said the electrics would be £1350. When he told me the materials were £300 and the rest was for 1 days work for 2 people he politely got told to do one! Apparently this is a standard price for such work but i found a spark who worked for £150 a day and saved £750 as it were. I paid him 2 days work even though he only did a day and a half as he worked hard and we were pleased with the outcome.

Finding someone that isn't a cowboy, that you trust and doesnt take the provebial is extremely difficult.
