Oh, powerful property experts of MSE i need advice!

Hi,

All my life i lived in council "State paid for" housing i know absolutely nothing of property whatsoever, but i have been looking on ebay and i have lots of questions and ideas, my first question is this -

You see these houses in Bulgaria on eBay for dirt cheap, like a 2 bedroom house with garden and stuff, why are they so cheap?
Seriously, are they worth buying from eBay or is there a catch? They seem to sell and get bids so i am not sure what to think.

I have more questions too about other things but i will ask this first and come back tonight.

Thanks.
Owed out = lots.

Probably because you will get peanuts to rent them out , unless your planning to move there and dont need an income (assuming your job isnt do-able from there)

Because they're all coming over here? :rotfl:
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • Dirt cheap to you, a tidy profit to the Bulgarians who will be chuckling into their vodka at all these British idiots who sign contracts in languages they don't speak and don't know anything about local property law.

Does anyone know anyone who's actually been to Bulgaria and rented a holiday property? I've lived in Eastern Europe and never met anyone who's been there.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!

Have you ever been to Bulgaria?

Yes, you can buy a dirt cheap property, go and live in it, and live like a king, as the restaurants, beer, taxis etc are also 'dirt cheap' compared to the UK.

If you decide to sell your property and come home, you'll get nothing for it and end up selling it dirt dirt dirt cheap just to get rid.

Or you try and rent it out, and earn peanuts in rent which won't even cover the cost of your annual flight over to check your agent hasn't been ripping you off.

Bulgaria is predicted to be the next property hot spot. You better get in quick and start bidding on those eBay auctions OP.

Bit far for me that one and getting a builder out there would be difficult

They're dirt cheap by our standards because that's how much they're worth over there, no other reason. The same as people living in Monaco would look at the price of a flat in Stafford and wonder why it's so cheap.
"You did not pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You were lucky enough to come of age at a time when housing was cheap, welfare was generous, and inflation was high enough to wipe out any debts you acquired. I’m pleased for you, but please stop being so unbearably smug about it."

As a very long term investment it might be interesting gamble - forestry for instance used to be cheap in the UK and now its very hard to buy it - same for any land. I monitor prices in Canada and they are all rising fast.

Bulgaria may be way behind the rest but land is something we'll find very difficult to get more of!

You would need to be very sure of what you are buying though.
