Getting Wood (oak) Shelves Cut To Size?

I have an alcove in my living room which is 112cm wide. I want to put some shelves there but I am having trouble finding any ready made shelves in the 100-110cm size. So I am thinking of approaching a timber merchant to get some shelves cut to size.
I really like the oak floating shelves style but I want to get solid oak, not mdf.
Has anyone had any experience of this?
How much does a piece of oak cost? I could always buy some & cut it myself.

You havz given the answer in your question. Go to your local timber merchant and ask them for a slice of their best timber and have it cut to size. Easy isn't it?0

I posted here to enquire about cost
Anyone have a rough idea of how much a piece of solid oak cut to 110cm in length & 30cm wide would cost?0 -
My OH says it can be quite expensive. At a guess about £10 a metre but that depends on the supplier and how wide the piece is as it's obviously a natural product. He did say though that it wouldn't be that good for shelves as it can bend and split.
It's also something that they don't have in stock, they have to source it.
PS OH works in a builders merchants0 -
Any localish hardwood specialists?
I paid about £15 for a piece about 350 x 150x20 the otherday, planed both sides. That was american oak.
European is much nicer though, and there doesnt seem to be much in the price lately.
A lot of timbers are priced by the cubic foot i believe, oak around the £40 c/ft i think.
The price will depend on quality.0
