Changing All Direct Debits, Aaaaghh!!! :(

My company is being taken over and from June our pay date is changing.
This means that most of my direct debits will have to have their dates changes.
Can I ask what the easiest way to do this is or is it a case of ringing every individual company up seperately? :o

Thanks for any help.

Personally I'd do it individually, as you know it's been done. The only automated way I'm aware of is the Current Account Switching Service which only changes account details NOT dates

    No, they don't have to.

Remember not all companies will be willing to change the dates, and some can only change them within a specific time frame.

My employer changed in a similar fashion recently, so I'm now paid on the last working day of the month rather than 27th. I'm glad I already had all my DDs set up for 1st of the month! You may want to consider doing this in case it happens again.
  • Aw heck I thought this would be the only way.
Wonder if I can just email them.
  • Luckily my mortgage doesnt have to be changed.
Yeah some companies you only have a choice of 2 dates in the month.

I would ring them, and get the name of the person you speak to. It's too easy for an email to disappear into a black hole and you only find out it hasn't been done when you go overdrawn.
  • Yes you're right.
I need to just sit down one night and call all of them, sigh.

    Thanks for all your help.

I would try online with each company first. You might be able to save some phone calls that way ;)

Online is a good bet, but yeah it's going to be individual with each company. It tends to be quite easy to change with most, though.

In the meantime, I'd perhaps considering moving some money from savings into your current account temporarily, and treating that amount as your usual baseline, to give you some padding if you miss a company out.
