Neither that one, nor the one in the OP, cover my car or my wife's. Not that it matters - if the tyre pressures aren't accurate anyway, I can't see that the site is much use.

You should always use the tyre pressure as indicated in your owner's manual, perhaps adjusting it up by one or two PSI to cut down rolling resistance (increasing fuel economy). Bear in mind that any significant deviation from what your tyre pressures should be may well invalidate your insurance.

    Free air for tyres
BP seems to be the only garage that offers this service for free.

Not all BP garages offer free air
  • thanks for that. I can never find the label with the pressures on. ive printed it out so ile put it in the car so that the wife can go and check them(she's no excuse now)he he he he-oh i am evil!
When there's a knock at the door, why do dogs always think its for them?
  • I checked the http://www.tyresite.com/tyrepressures.asp site against the Haynes manual for the Ford Focus (1998-2001). Haynes are a well respected publisher of technical information on cars and Ford do not appear to have tyre pressures online. The Focus is Britain's best-selling car.

The site gives the wrong figures for diesel models and for 195/55 R15 tyres and doesn't mention that you need much higher pressures on the rear tyres if the car is fully laden.

In view of this and the other inaccuracies noted by previous posters and the safety-critical nature of the information I think the site should be avoided.

I hope that Martin will put a warning in his next weekly email and ensure that in future the websites he promotes are checked out first.

Thanks for that. I have printed it out and will put in my car. Although it has the details near my fuel thing it is in a 'language' that I don't understand and gives the details in 'bar' whatever that means. The charts at petrol stations often don't mention my little car.:j
Sainsburys petrol station air machines have a button to choose bar or psi so you dont have to work it out

    Helpful tip:
To convert BAR pressure readings in to PSI simply times the BAR figure by 14.5 (for example 2.1BAR = 30PSI). Diving the PSI figure by 14.5 will convert your reading to BAR.
 Hope this helps you out. XLR8

You'll find that the majority, if not all, of Supermarket filling stations will have free air (and water) facilities on offer. The Supermarkets provide this as an 'extra' service for customer convenience. You are not obliged to buy fuel at the same time (although it is quite often the cheapest in the area).

Most supermarkets provide the modern digital air pressure machines. You "program" in the desired pressure in PSI, fill the tyre, and then the machine bleeps when the tyre is at this level.

Couldn't be simpler, safer or cheaper!

  • The pressure's will differ on all cars... It depends on how many people you have in the car, and which tyres you use...

My car only lists 1 set (in the petrol cap), but my wife's (ford focus) lists several pressures depending on people/tyres etc

This will account for the differences

Neither site list the correct value(s) for my car. They give too high a value.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J
