Thinking of buying xbox 1 but keeping 360

DS wants to put his Christmas/birthday money on buying an xbox 1, he is an avid 360 player but now his friends have migrated and the newer games are not coming out on the 360 it's probably time
Before we have just upgraded but now the games are not compatable (thanks Microsoft) DS wants to keep his 360 (no point buying duplicate for the xbox 1 and also a lot of his favourites not available on the new console:mad:
We are set up in living room apart from the obvious of finding space, 2 lots of cables and an extra plug socket, aside of keep plugging in and out of the TV scart is there anything else we need to consider?
and I guess we need another gold live membership?
Thanks

You don't need another Xbox Live membership, the same profile(s) can be used on the new system, and both systems can be signed in at the same time.
Why are you using a scart connection? HDMI is the way now..
If the xbox is used all the time, then it can be setup with sky\virgin hdmi passing through the xbox to the tv is sockets are in short supply with your tv..
I.e. can then watch tv through the xbox snap in window and reply to game requests\Skype calls etc whilst watching tv.. though that means the xbox always has to be on to watch tv..0 -
Also if DS has some really good friends that are on xbox, or theres more than one console in the house.., games that are bought 'online' (rather than disks ) can be 'shared' in a round about way,as well as xbox live membership..
Each xbox profile has a 'home' console, where purchased content can be used by any profile on that system (so not everyone has to buy the game).. But can also be used on other consoles (roaming) with access to any games they've bought whilst they are signed into that console..
So I have an xbox one, and my son does. My profile has 'his' console set as my home console, his profile can play all the games Ive bought, and access online games without needing to pay separately for gold.
My console is technically a 'roaming' one and so I can still play my downloaded games at the same time..
That way new games only need purchasing online once (ok a little bit more expensive than in the shop say), but it can be played on 2 consoles at the same time (so saving on buying 2 of the top games!). Plus have only paid for one 12 months xbox live membership (which I always buy from cdkeys)..0 -

Thanks, it is possibly a HDMI(not techy) so we could have one hdmi through sky and say the 360 plugged through the TV, that way we wouldn't have to keep disconnecting cables?0 -

Thanks, it will just be the 1 console in the house, I will mention to DS about the sharing with friends.
Good to know about the live gold that we don't need another!
but peed off the Triton warheads are not compatible with xbox one - another headset to buy0 -
There is a headset attachment that other cables can be run through.. works fine for my Turtle Beaches..

Can't really blame Microsoft for the lack of backwards compatibility - this generation technically only has one home console which is backwards compatible & even then only one model of it. (Even that's a very tedious way of looking at it given Wii U is technically inferior to PS4/XB1)
You don't need two TV cables as you can run your 360 cable through your Xbox 1 if you switch to HDMI making it slightly easier. The headset issue is an annoyance, but as far as I can see the adaptor will not work with the Warheads. There's a basic chat headset with the console, not great but probably enough to keep you going until you can pick up a better one at a reasonable price.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Thanks that's good to know, so run the HDMI xbox 360 cable through the xbox one - then TV? - is that right - just don't want to have to reconnect cable all the time!
I have checked and the Warheads are not compatible, but happy to use that for the 360 and make do with the cheaper - just need to find a deal now!0 -
Yes, HDMI from Xbox 360 into the "HDMI In" at the back of an Xbox 1.
The console's generally around the £280-300 mark brand new right about now, can't think of anything sufficiently big coming out that would warrant a bundle deal until Batman. Problem there being that Batman has PS4 exclusive content & a Batman branded console coming out leading me to believe that any bundling will be done on a retailer basis - so no "OMG" type bundles. Possibly some activity around Project Cars though, might be worth keeping an eye open but that's about all I can see in the next couple of months. (And I strongly doubt you'll be able to "hold off" until Black Friday - pandora's out the box now, so you're probably gonna struggle to stall that long!)Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Thanks good news about the cable, now have to find the space for both!
