• Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))if you need one.

Its raining!! at last, the garden was suffering quite badly, so the rain is welcome here, as long as it does not stay too long and drown everything.

Off to get the feet done this morning. DD2 coming for an hour after lunch.

I set to yesterday and made a ring of shortbread for SIL's coffee stop tomorrow, so not hassle in the morning, just a quick whip round to tisy up, if she doesn't like it...well tough.

Gers - Sorry I forgot to say, I tried to clean the glass with newspaper and ash and also vinegar but it didn't work so I got a stanley knife blade and scraped it off. My friends had given me a compressed sawdust log that I put on without enough air going through, the log must have been slightly damp as it as tar and not soot on the glass.

Lesson learned and after reading the instruction manual I think I know what I'm doing now!!

Ooh.. that sounds bad Camelot. It's best to only burn wood as everything else does gunge up your glass and eventually the flue too. I've been advised to not even burn paper or anything else, only wood. Conifer wood is also full of sap and resin which is lethal. I live in an area covered with conifers but have to source hardwood for the woodburner.

    Hope all is well now!

    Morning :hello:

camelot I'm useless at interviews, always do well when it's more of an informal chat though. Hopefully it's not as bad as you think xx

redruby Fingers crossed that the meeting goes well and it all gets sorted today xx

It's cold and miserable here, much like my mood, lol. I'm hoping the rain stops soon, Scampi hates it and I don't want him to miss his morning walk. He ran out this morning, had the fastest wee possible while barking at the rain then ran back in :D

I'm going to sort through my yarn today and bring it back downstairs. It'll be hidden away though, I'm still not convinced that it's 100% safe from little paws :D I want to sort the books and get rid of some, there are far too many and most won't be read again. Not much else going on here, I keep meaning to design my own blanket pattern so I'll work on that today.

  • WE burn any wood as long as it's properly seasoned and dry, even the dreaded conifer although we try not to use too much of that in any one burn. We lay a crumpled paper base, then some fine kindling topped with a compressed papier mache log (we have a gadget that makes them) and some small logs, about 1" diameter. We have both the bottom vent and the wheel vent on the door wide to start with to get the thing away properly and then, when it's lit the wood we close down the bottom vent almost entirely and the door vent about half way. When the blaze is going well we pop on a bigger log and close the door vent a little more. We're usually up to reccommended temperature within 20 minutes and then just tweak vents as the fire burns through the evening. Our sweep always knocks something off the price of his sweeping as he says we burn things properly i.e hot enough and never have much soot or tar in the chimney. We have a once a year clean and have done so for the entire time we've had the stove. As long as the wood IS fully seasoned and dry you shouldn't have any problems. DD burns the compressed woodchip logs and has no problems with them in her woodstove either, hope that helps, Lyn xxx.

Morning all, bit windy and gloomy in my little corner of Kent. Feel the need to get rid of some more bits and bobs, some too good for boot fair when some people only want to pay pennies, might have to resurrect those well known selling site accounts and try the vinyl records and Star Wars stuff on there.

    Dinner from freezer tonight.

DH prepping the lottie for the plants growing away under my home made cloches in the garden

love to hear what you all up to.

Hugs to all those that need them

Scaffolding is up but the lovely bloke assures me it'll be gone immediately when the job is done, perhaps mid of next week at latest. He's up there hammering away at the chimney and I can hear stuff falling down.

Plumber's been too and can do the job soon. Mind you with the amount of rain that we get here I won't need the tap too often but it will be useful anyway.

Last night there was a tiny wee little field mouse in the living room - I have no idea how it got in but eventually worked out that it came through the door to the back of the house. It couldn't get out because I had a draught excluder there last night. It kept going round the skirting board of the room looking to get out - once I clear its path it scurried out to the back. Where it's gone after that is a question! Can't see any holes anywhere in either the back hall, utility room or kitchen. I've ordered a humane mouse trap so it can be found and taken away without killing it. Never seen one before although I know they are in the walls.

I wasn't scared at all, just glad it wasn't a rat!

Good Morning everyone, oh my goodness it's really cold here today and the rain is lashing down on the windows too. He Who Knows and that hound have dressed up in waterproofs and are out for walkies while I'm doing the houise and getting lots of 'rolly' towels down for when the boy gets back. Have to be in today as we're awaiting a sign for delivery, He Who Knows got a new phone and contract from T*sco and this is the second time in a month that it has gone very wrong and had to be sent back, really NOT GOOD!

CAMELOT we get some sooty deposits on the woodburner glass and it's usually when the burn has not been hot enough. The next good hot fire sees it clear itself so we try to keep the stove running at the top third of the reccommended temperature range, up to 400deg and that stops it happening. We've one of those little round stove thermometers which sticks on and is very useful.

Stay warm everyone, Brrrrr, Lyn xxx.

That's what I do too MrsLW.

It's interesting what you have written about the temperature, I didn't know the figures and now think I need a stove thermometer too! :rotfl: Got a moisture meter for the wood and, of course, a CO2 meter, so I reckon that my set will be complete with a thermometer!

    Thanks.

    Evening all,

thanks for thinking of me in previous posts. I'm ok, we came back yesterday from North Devon and I haven't quite caught up with the laundry. We were away 10 days and not only have I got our laundry to do, 'Youngest' only did his laundry once in 10 days so ive got his as well to do. He's had one heck of an ear bashing this morning. The cooker was coated in days old grease and the bathroom... Well it doesn't look as though its been cleaned for months. I am not well pleased to have to come back to it. At least he made an effort last time we went away.

The weather was glorious the first week but after that it was a bit nippy. I wouldn't say it was a holiday as such as my biggest source of stress was sitting alongside me but it made a change. Of course I worried about my Mom back in the residential home and my kids who cause me such a headache but being so far away helped.

I ordered our food shopping online this time. Had it delivered straight to the caravan. I'll definitely do that again as it saved almost daily trips to the supermarket.

This time tomorrow my daughter, her partner and of course Soldier will be on the plane over to the UK. I think she said it would take 17 hours to get here and one change of plane.

Hubby still refuses to fetch her from the airport so my future son in law is having time off to fetch her. It shouldn't be like this but hubby wont budge. I'm sure he wont learn until he has pushed everybody who cares about him away. If I die before him he will be a lonely man. Fit for nothing but work.... but there you go.

Doubt if i'll get to post much until hubby is back at work on Monday.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great evening all.

    Evening all,

Elona....thinking of you and your family.

Judi....sorry your OH is being such a curmudgeon, but seeing DD and Soldier will make up for it

Been a lovely sunny day here, in between the heavy showers, blooming cold though, verylittle done in garden today, watered greenhouse and put my one butternut squash plant into a bigger pot.

We are unexpectedly going to Kerry for the weekend, DD4 and fiance had booked 3 nights but hospital has told her that she should not go so far.....so they are coming here to keep Mossy company instead. I am looking forward to some nice beach walks, but if the weather is bad it wont happen.

Need to finish a white blanket I seem to have been knitting for ages, want to take something smaller with me for the weekend.

Wishing everbody a pleasant and fun weekend

  • DH took me to B&M this morning and it totally wiped me out, he told be to go back to bed after lunch and I slept solid until 5pm, this is really not like me, he has told me to phone the doctor first thing because he is worried about my toe. Didn't feel like food tonight but managed a slice of beans on toast, the boys had pork chops chips and beans.

It has been perdiddling down on and off all day and has really cooled down tonight.

Elona thinking of you and your family, we are here if you need us xxx

Early night for me, I feel wiped again.

    Sweet dreams all
