Either tell the insurers and let them deal with it or pay the guy directly and don't tell them. If you pay the guy directly and still tell insurers then it's the worst of both worlds as the renewal quote will almost certainly be affected by the declaration of a fault accident as facade says in post #9.0

declaring one fault incident will affect her policy, yes. But certainly not to the extend it would declaring an incident, a claim and a reduction in NCB accrued.0 -
Never mind calling the insurance company , just get the other car fixed and be done with it.
not recommended, i had my mirror ripped off by a bus, the company repaired it no issues, 2 year later it was brought up when i renewed my insurance, where i was told all accidents whether claimed or not, should be reported, possibly a ploy to increase premiums, but with a risk of void insurance for inaccurate declarations i'd just disclose this to you insurance. Tell them you're advising only & not claiming.0 -
Just thought id post an update as to what happened incase anyone wondered. I ended up phoning my insurance company and went through it all with them. They said my premiums would rise slightly but only by a 'few pounds' a year according to them. They said i would not loose all of my no claims bonus but so many years of it as i didn't claim for any damage to my own car? When it comes to renewing they said if i really wanted to i could offer to pay the insurance company the money back that they paid for this persons repairs and that would help my case but the premium rise would be so minimal it wouldn't be worth it.
Decided to do it this way as it was the easiest way for both myself and the other person! Thanks for all the help and advice!
Another day, another lesson learnt.0 -
