I want to get an app recomended for my dyslexic daughter thats only available on an ipad/iphone ect, it'll work on ios 3.2 or above. I usually use android and have no idea about apple products. I was thinking of getting her a tablet anyway, so can someone suggest a cheap option that will still be good enough to play other games ect on.
Should i be looking at a 1st generation, 2nd etc?
Many thanks,
Mary

If your daughter is a child, perhaps the iPad mini would be the best bet for holding and carrying about.
Before when people have asked about this, the one with Retina Display has been recommended over the original mini, as it has a better processor. I've got the original mini, and I like it, but the retina display wasn't available then. If you are going for as cheap as possible then the original mini will be fine.
Check out iPad deals on HotUKDeals, have seen some recently on there, but no idea if still available or not.0 -
At the moment Argos are selling the iPad Mini 3 for £249.99. This is the one which was released last October and comes with the finger print scanner (TouchID.)
For £10 less you could get the iPad Mini 2. This was released in October 2013 and has the same specs as the Mini 3, just not TouchID.
I agree with Anne_Marie that the Mini would be the best device for your daughter. I have one myself and it's extremely portable. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I'm hoping i can find a 2nd hand/refurbished one, for about £100. I'll look for your suggestions though. :-)0

It may be the app you need needs IOS 3.2 but honestly the iPad 1 is long in the tooth, and has a limited future. it can only go to IOS 5.1
They work very well, we still have the Ipad 1 at home as well as a mini 2, but if you buy a Ipad 1 then find you need a higher IOS than 5.1 you have to buy a new one as threes no upgrade path.
It not money saving as they cost more, but you need to be looking at a Mini2 or Mini 3 and at least an Ipad 2 to get the latest IOS. I'd advise against a iPad 2 as they will be the next to fall off support. The Mini 2 is still in production and likely to be the cheapest that's reasonably current and so have a reasonably long support term left,.0 -
Morgan Computers do a refurbished Ipad 1 for GBX 100.
Shame about the app not being on Android. The Ipad mini 1st generation is available used on Amazon for a cracking price.0 -
No mention of the app in OP so i would suggest Google Android App Like whatever its name is .0

I've emailed them to see if i can get it any otherway,;but they say not in the forseable future.
I can get the mini 2 on Very.com for £229, interedt free for a year, might have to push the boat out a bit further.0 -
You could also keep an eye on the refurbished section on Apple website. You still get the full guarantee, as you would for a new one. Unfortunately, don't think that you will ever get one for your target £100 or so.

It's always worth keeping an eye out on HotUKDeals too, but you do have to be quick for really good offers.
Does your daughter's school have any kind of deals for buying iPads? Seen several posts on here about this. There is also a discount for students, more for university, lesser for schools, with Apple but worth checking out.

As JJEgan has said, have you tried looking for a comparable app for Android or Windows? I had a quick look for apps, and most of the ones coming up were for iPad/phone/mac, so you probably have done this. Might be an idea to give us the name of the app. Perhaps others on here with dyslexia, or who have members of family with dyslexia, might be able to help with suggestions.
I am not sure if you can edit the header of your original topic to include dyslexia to get more attention. If not, might be an idea to ask in a separate topic for suitable android apps for dyslexia, giving the age of the child to get appropriate advice.
After my very brief research, it's very disappointing to see that most apps are for Apple products. It's maddening to see that you may have to pay a premium for a device though, to get an app for someone with a disability. Really hope that others can give you better advice, as I'm certainly not able or qualified to do.0 -

Developers will write code for the platform they known and can most sell easily on.
Even if they are not seeing to make a profit (or someone like sponser it) then someone has to pay for the time to develop it, it may be some people write and develop apps for altruistic reasons, but there is still a cost in terms of time taken, and if this app writing is a sideline they may want to concentrate on what they know for a "day job".
At the end of the day the iPad is the most popular tablet, and arguably developing for that will see it get to the most people who it can help.0
