That is so beautiful already - what a great idea to make your own! I did the cheat's way - dress from Monsoon taken to seamstress with picture of the dream dress and asked her to transform. I don't know why more girls don't do that or what you're doing, it's so much more affordable.

I've taken up sewing since but not brave enough for clothes making yet!

Wow sunshineandlollipops, that sounds gorgeous! Making a little Lace bolero type thing sounds awesome! If you wanted to you could see the odd sequin or jewel on here and there to give it some bling! Can you tell bling is my thing? Haha.

I had a look on the abakhan website and it looks amazing, but unfortunately I'm not near Manchester so don't think I'll be going any time soon. Fortunately there's a great place called dainty supplies which is just a few miles down the road from me, so I went a few weeks ago with my mum to look at materials and things, then I went back at the weekend with OH to get my final material! I haven't done anything with it yet (was too scared last weekend!) but I'm going to go hell for leather over the bank holiday weekend, and I think I can get it mostly done! I'll just need my friend to angle the shoulders properly before I see them in, and then I'll need to add the sleeves. I've got some stretch mesh that I ordered from eBay to make the sleeves from, so they should be really easy!

I've done loads of sketches of the design of my dress, and I did one the other day that I feel is pretty much how I want it to look. I took a photo of the sketch so I could show you all...

Thats pretty much what I want. Ambitious I know, but I think I've left myself with enough time to stich beads and things on before the wedding! I'm really looking forward to getting all my beads and things, it's going to be so exciting!

  • Ooh that will be lovely! I can see why you've started so early now, the beading will take ages!

I've spent 4 days on mine this week and it is looking like a wedding dress now! I don't have any pics unfortunately and it's at my parent's house but I don't have too much more to do. The invisible side zip needs finishing by hand. I want to put fake buttons down the back seam but haven't found any I love yet and am also a bit concerned about making rouleau loops out of the thick fabric I am using. Then I need to finish all the seams and hem two massive circle skirts including the lining! Oh, and decide if I want a belt!

I also changed my mind about the bolero and attached a lace overlay to the bodice including 3/4 length sleeves. I'm glad I did that though, the dress was looking a little plain beforehand.

I don't think I will put any bling on really, I've gone for quite a retro 50's style which is more my everyday thing too and I'm not sure it would match the style of the dress. How did you get on over the bank holiday weekend? I'm having a day off today after starting to get a bit stressed with it yesterday!! Need a break! Xx

Hi all, sorry for not posting for so long, was so busy and then was ill for a little while so been a bit distracted!

Over the bank holiday weekend I went crazy, and I got my final dress almost sewn up! I I'm ready to put the sleeves on it now, and once those are done I'll be ready to start sewing beads on! I've ordered some from eBay so waiting for those to arrive this week. I'll post some pics of the dress later on this evening when I've got access to the desktop pc!
