DFS Applied for credit without my permission?

Options
Hi There,

On Sunday I decided to purchase a new Suite at DFS, and to take advantage of their Interest Free credit arrangement. At the store I signed a credit agreement with Creation Finance. This was the only paperwork I signed.

This morning I got a call to "Confirm my details" I had them quote the Order reference, and I gladly confirmed by Name, DoB, Address etc. They said Thank you, I said you're welcome and I went back to working.

A few hours later, I got a call asking me to come in and "Sign some more paperwork". After some pressing, the agent finally disclosed I had been declined credit* with Creation, but it was OK because I have been approved by Barclays.

As I see it, DFS have just put a second hard pull against my file, and potentially have already entered into a financial arrangement, in my name both without my permission. I'll be going to their store after work tomorrow as the agent was less than helpful, but can anyone advise where I stand here?

Many Thanks!
Dave

*One silver lining - After digging out the credit reports, it turns out another guys defaulted credit cards appeared on my file - Getting that cleared up right now!

What is the problem really though? You got the credit presumably?
  • The evasive phone call, claiming its standard practice, and performing the action without my permission.

I'll be honest, the breach of my trust is the one that's stinging the most.

It happened something to me afew years ago. Cannot remember 1st company they used but it was declined. They then searched Blackhorse and it was accepted.

As long as you are happy to go ahead with the purchase I don't think it makes any difference - although I agree before doing another application they should have asked you.

According to their website they are a licensed Credit Broker so they must use several financial companies for anyone wishing to use credit to purchase from them.

I agree they should've asked you if you'd wished to conduct a second search with Barclays especially as you've found an incorrect entry on your credit files.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
