Full & final settlement accepted now chasing balance!!!!

In november I offered my creditors various sums in full and final settlement, all of the accounts had been passed onto debt collection comanies. I got letters back from all of them eventually agreeing to accept the sum as full and final settlement....BUT I have just heard from "Ruthbridge Ltd" (and the most ignorent, rudest most unpleasant individual I have had to deal with so far) on behalf of Barclays chasing the remainder (the original settlement was paid through Westcott). And HFC have written to demand the remainder. Now I have had several people say that once a full and final is agreed they cant chase for the remainder but I need the facts. Can they do this?I have asked for a complaint form from the banking ombudsman to complain about the treatment I got from Ruthbridge when I rang to say I had paid full and final, but need to know if full and final really means just that????Ta muchleyPamO

I only had one problem, with Capital One. I just wrote a firm but polite letter back setting out the details and enclosing copies of correspondence. I got back a very pleasant apology and confirmation that debt was clear. I would try that approach and copy in the debt collectors.
