Tesco unable to provide quote

I'm moving from Reading to Manchester next week, and have just rung Tesco Bank (my current car insurer) to ask for a quote as to how much my car insurance will increase by when I change my address. I don't want to actually change my address yet, as I'm actually thinking of selling my car before I move as I won't need it for commuting. A part of my decision making will be how much my car insurance will cost.
The guy on the phone said that for some reason the system didn't like my new postcode, so he couldn't tell me how much my premium would change by when I move, unless I changed my details on their system. He could only give me a "rough estimate" which he couldn't guarentee would be accurate when I ring up and actually change my address.
Does this seem strange to anyone else? Surely they must have to tell me such information so I can compare it with quotes from other providers?

Is it a new build property or recently built property you're moving into by any chance?0

My broker wont even quote with a Manchester or Oldham postcode. Have you done an online quote using slightly different details?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thanks for the replies. The building is at least 7 years old I'd say. I've looked at quotes from other insurers so that gives me a pretty good idea that insurance is basically very expensive in Manchester!
I just thought it was very odd that they could only give me the quote once I confirmed the move, it wasn't that they were unable to quote at all.
Still looking forward to moving back north, even if it is the wrong side of the Pennines!0
