Thanks for all your comments, really appreciate the help.
When the building changed hands - about 3 months before the end of our tenancy agreement - we were instructed to carry on paying rent to the original company. I guess that, for this reason, the new owners will deny culpability and refuse to pay us the money themselves. Think I will try and speak to them tomorrow and see if anything might be possible unless anyone has any further suggestions?0 -
You really need to find out who the legal owners were at the time of your vacating.
There may have been an arrangement in place that rents continued to the old company under some form of licence agreement under the terms of the sale.
When you've found out as much as you can, take it to the CAB or a solicitor if you can find one that will give a free consultation.
Do not hesitate to use small claims to obtain your money back, a lot of these companies will hide behind faceless institutions on the grounds that the average Joe will give up on it as too much trouble.
It's precisely this behaviour that makes me even more determined to get every penny out of them. grrrr.....:)0
