Should I use a conveyor or solicitor?

Been reading online that conveyors are cheaper to use when buying a house. looked onlne for websites like compareconveyancingquotes.co.uk they had companies like Lambert Pugh are they any good? and yourconveyancingservices.com. So anyone think it's better if I use a conveyor or a solicitor If i'm just buying a house with a mortgage involved.

    Chances are that a solicitor will use a Licenced Conveyancer anyway. When I did a comparison of online vs bricks and mortar recently the online costs appeared a little lower but I was left with a feeling that extras could get added on at the end. I eventually went with a mid-priced solicitor local to the property that I'm buying (not at all local to me) but as yet they haven't had to do anything as I'm renegotiating the price so I can't say whether they've been any good.

    I suspect a conveyor will not be much help in buying a house.

    We tend to follow the MSE thread advice above, and also only use solicitors who are effective communicators (i.e they pick up the phone when you call for a quote, speak in palin English not jargon and confirm fast by email). I also ask whether they use email to update me and for correspondence such as standard enquiries as that can shave days, or weeks off the process compared to snail mail; that way I can respond to enquiries the same day.

    Our kids had a bad experience when they bought in 2012 as the person they bought from chose a cheap conveyancer miles away, who couldn't handle a slightly complex land registration problem, didn't respond to their increasingly frantic client's calls and wasted many weeks- so bad their vendor had to sack 'em and start again
