Advice please?
I recently had my steering column fail and had it repaired at my local garage. I have contacted Vauxhall, as I heard that they were refunding for this. When I spoke to their customer services today, I was informed that as my garage was not recognised as a Vauxhall garage, I could not get the refund. I am not happy with this, as it is a recognised fault with some Vauxhall models. Is there any redress?

don't know the full story with this model, but dealerships that carry out recalls etc like to do the work themselves as parts and labour cheaper. But i would say its worth writing a leter to the head office explaining the situationPlan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].

Vauxhall tend be be quite cute about "refunds" and "contributions"
My late father had a Vectra. He got a recall letter, warning about the cam pulleys not being made proiperly, and Vauxhall would supply and fit new ones for free (obviously) provided the work was done at a vauxhall dealer as part of a cambelt change. Strangely, the cambelt change at the dealer cost more than he would have paid for all the parts, including buying the ones vauxhall changed "for free" and the belt change at an independent.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If it's under warranty, there's a well-established procedure where any Vauxhall dealer will fix it free of charge. I can't see why they have any obligation to pay up if you chose to go elsewhere.
If it's not under warranty, then they no obligation at all.0 -
The fundamental issue is that you have had the fault diagnosed and repaired by someone entirely out of their jurisdiction. They have no way of knowing if a genuine fault existed, or indeed if any repair will be of decent quality. By all means keep on contacting v/x with details of the repair and your requested solution if it was a VAT registered garage, but it will be goodwill and pester power that will get you anywhere, not obligation.0

Out of curiosity, what symptoms did you suffer?0
