Batch ripping CDs (and then DVDs?)

Folks :-
I am looking to move into the 21st century and rip all my CDs (500 or so at a guess.) I've got a PC with 3 DVD drives in so am tempted to stick 3 CDs in the PC and let it get on with it then change the CDs. I think dBpoweramp can do batch ripping / tagging. Is there anything else running under windows that can?
Secondly I note the advice that you should rip your CDs to a lossless format, however alot of the time I'm listening to them on the car / via my phone; so storage is limited and listening conditions aren't great. Is there software available that when I copy a flac file to my phone it'll encode it as an MP3 during that process?
Finally, some of my DVDs could use ripping. Is there any software to batch rip them (and CDs?)
(Before it's asked this is purely for my own use and I think is legal / moral as I've no intention of selling off the CDs.)
Thanks
Kevin

EAC (Exact Audio Copy) is probably the best way to rip CDs. It does much more than other ripping programs to ensure it gets the most accurate rip. It can even manage to rip badly scratched, otherwise unplayable CDs.

I transcoded the ripped files to FLAC for the best audio quality.StockportGerbil wrote: »Secondly I note the advice that you should rip your CDs to a lossless format, however alot of the time I'm listening to them on the car / via my phone; so storage is limited and listening conditions aren't great. FlacSquisher will convert a folder of FLACs to MP3s. The default settings rip at 128kb/s, but (if you can find the relevant command line parameters for the LAME encoder) you can change that.

Hope that helps0 -

AudioGrabber can use multiple drives so it loads a disk up, ID's in in CDDB to create the MP3 tags, and gets it ready Then starts to rip it. While that is ripping it can queue up another disk in the same way on a 2nd drive so you can do the ripping faster. Makes you more a robot, swapping disks and checking the IDDB record but its not that bad...0 -
There are many programs that can rip DVDs, like Handbrake, AnyDVD and macx dvd ripper, all of them can convert DVD to many formats.
As for CD ripper, Fairstars CD Ripper (freeware) is the only one I now.
Now sure if there is any software that supports both DVDs and CDs, you may need to do more search work.
anyway hope this help0
