Sounds like the Barclaycard application was declined back in 06/12 and the cifas marker applied immediately (the OP thinks) because of employment discrepancies. But only came to light now.

Don't think he ever had an active Barclaycard.

That's exactly it. The Barclaycard was cancelled by them the following day by phone call, but they wouldn't tell me the reason why. Didn't know a CIFAS marker was placed.

Does anyone have an indication as to how long Barclaycard take to respond to formal complaints?

How would Barclaycard know that OP's job was about to end - something not right here?

That's his guess but who knows. Only known facts :
    - Application for card - declined.
    - Cifas applied
    - OP unaware
    - OP works in financial services and current job applied for jeopardised.

So how does he proceed ? Given Barclaycard acknowledge they placed the cifas marker, do they have to explain the grounds, do they have to remove it if the (currently unknown) grounds can be proven to be incorrect, or are they untouchable ?

Edit : To the OP did the SAR response from Barclaycard indicate the 'why' or just acknowledge their placing of the cifas marker ?

I'm only assuming that is the reason why they placed the CIFAS marker, as they've listed on my SAR "False Employment" despite being employed.

The SAR response states "False Employment". I have the payslip to prove I was in employment that month, so I have sent a copy to them along with my formal complaint letter. Not sure what else to do

Agreed, but all the facts were correct at the time of applying.

Not as simple as that. As you were aware of a material change in circumstances at the time of the application. Technically you were attempting to deceive. Did you read the declaration next to where you signed the application form?
