Applied for CC - now changed mind

I applied for a 0% Credit Card yesterday and have been accepted.

However, I wish I had applied for the Santander 123 card. (I should have researched properly before steaming ahead - I automatically discarded it due to the £24 annual fee but now realised the cashback would seriously outweigh that).

I have not signed the credit agreement or got the card/pin yet.

Would it be harmful to my credit file if I applied for the Santander card instead and did not go ahead with the other card?

Q.2 - I have 1 other credit card which I rarely use as it is a poor % and only a small limit (had for many years) - Will it 'benefit' my credit if I cancel it since I rarely use it? Or does it do no harm to leave it running?

Thanks in advance

    - Not necessarily harmful however they will have done a credit check on you and this does leave 'footprints' on your file. Unless it was shakey to begin with, this shouldn't really make a difference - just don't do too many in a short space of time.

    - Doesn't necessarily cause harm, however doesn't do any good either. If you apply for a mortgage, it sometimes can make a difference if they think you are 'over committed' for their affordability checks by having too many credit cards - even if there's no balance at the time. So unless you need this as an emergency card/funds etc, i'd personally close it down.

(Which reminds me...i have 2 of those to close down myself! :rotfl:)
