The Range - Furniture and DIY

Hello all,

Not really sure this is the right place for this but here goes....

We are moving into a new house shortly and will be buying a fair bit of furniture for it. From bedroom furniture to sofa beds to garden furniture to wallpaper.

My question is has anyone negotiated any money off from places like The Range and Dunelm mill when buying a lot of items ?

Thanks.

    No, but....

If you find a particular furniture range you like, shop around. It's really hard to do because every shop gives the same range a different name, so you can't just Google. But, for example, our house is full of this furniture, which Dunelm call "Harrogate":

However, we buy it from Furniture Barn who call it "Chester":

Price difference is huge. For example, the Mini Sideboard is £50 (25%) more at Dunelm, and the dresser (large sideboard with hutch) is £300 (almost 50%) more!!

We've had a ton of furniture from Furniture Barn and they've always been good, but they don't stock all of the ranges that Dunelm and The Range sell.

If you find a range you like, try looking online for items with the same stock image and if you get stuck post what you want on here as someone else may recognise it. ;)
  • I wouldn't buy another sofa from The Range - the cushions (seat and backs) are made of cotton wool-like stuff that need plumping every day to retain its shape. Ours went terribly flat and the guy they sent round (which we had to pay for) said that's what we should be doing, however when we bought it The Range didn't tell us that. So, in under 2 years we have had to replace the seat cushions with foam and put up with ridiculous shaped (and shrunk!) back cushions. The guy also said the Range employees plump the cushions every hour or so to make them look good.

However, we did buy a dining table and chairs and they have lasted 3 years so far.

I think that highly unlikely judging by how few staff they have, but i would agree there quality is shocking. Its just like any other chain place its highly unlikely they will knock anything off at the tills.

Thanks for the replies, pinkteapot, excellent advice. I'll get looking at other websites for same furniture.
