I applied for a current account and was told I would hear 'within a day or two'. Any idea how long this is likely to be, please?

It's been tortuous. I would suggest phoning them on 0345 900 0900 if there's any delay.
I applied on 28th March. Received a letter dated 8th April on 18th April, to phone with more info (they had done a credit check on 17th). Phoned and was told I would hear within 3 days. Have just phoned and they say it was approved on 20th April, and documentation sent out.
Today is 28th April and nothing yet received. Of course this could be the Royal Mail, but I have been inundated with post from Yorkshire, Tesco Bank, and whoever else I've been dealing with. So find it odd that I have received nothing from M&S except for one letter on 18th April saying that they had been trying to phone me (I am retired so fairly easy to get hold of, plus they have had my e-mail address).
Only doing this for the incentive.
One thing about the incentives, is that we are getting to know who we like with the various accounts. I have decided I like RBS (who kindly and easily provided the donors); I like Co-op; dislike the YBS website, and so on.0 -
I applied at 10pm received acceptance email next day 3pm.0

In my case it took about three days post application to get an update saying they were still looking at my details.
Then two days later I got a letter asking me to provide ID – similar to the requirements of First Direct (e.g. certified documents or HMRC letters etc) although you cannot use a First Direct, HSBC or M&S bank statement as proof of address??!!
I opted to go into a branch to complete the process – and am glad I did as I may not have been approved otherwise as the branch advisor had to make my case over the phone with their head office. I also got a free bottle of M&S sparkling water and some chocolates too in the branch – they are so peaceful as they have so few customers!
Apparently M&S had real trouble identifying me – despite the fact I am a long term customer with HSBC and First Direct and haven’t moved for years.
So if there are any problems and you live near a branch – try that route as the account will then be opened immediately and you might get some freebies!0 -
Documents for my signature arrived today. Off to return them by post now!0

Still waiting, but have just received an e-mail saying that the account has been approved, and I should get documents in the next few days.
I think I want to cry.... It's been over a month since I applied.
I think I may have to buy some fizzy drink with my voucher (if, and) when I get it.0 -
I applied on the 30th March and still not there yet. Just been on the phone to them after I had not received anything for nearly 2 weeks after I sent my signature in. They will send it again apparently. Hopefully the pre-paid envelope they sent last time will not be ripped in half as before.
Never experienced any issues opening accounts with any other financial organisation before. This has been painfully slow and to be honest I wish I hadn't bothered.
It does not give me any confidence and it will not be my main account that I will switch to them and will mainly use if for the regular savings account that I also applied for.0 -
How does the setting up the regular saver work? I ticked to open one with my current account but need to nominate the payment date and amount from current.0

Try not to cry – you will probably start laughing when you see the design of their debit card with a woman’s leg sticking out of a coffee cup and then feel ill as its impossible to read your card number/details on the hideous background!:D
Also do you live near one of their stores with an M&S bank branch? If you do I would recommend you go in there to complete the process and do your switch – you will be seen immediately as they never seem to have any customers.
Far better than waiting for ages to get through on the phone – and you might even get a bottle of sparkling water and some chocolates too like me! They are all very nice and it gives you a far better impression of the bank – they have nice comfy settees too if you need to wait.
Like YB/CB they are much better to deal with face to face!
PS Of course you will also need to sort out your gift card – they regularly seem to send out £100 gift cards and then you have to ring up separately to get the extra £25 due if you applied via MSE/MSS before 31 March.0
