When does the 6 years until statute barred start

Is it at the date of default or not.

    See: https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/25%20EW%20Time%20limits%20for%20recovering%20debts/Page-02.aspx

Depends on several things, such as the type of debt, whether you made part payments after you first started being unable to pay the full amount, what and when you last write to the creditor acknowledging the debt etc.

May be worth chatting to National Debtline to talking it through.

I presume you are trying to work out whether a debt was statute barred before they went for a CCJ.

Thanks Fermi for the quick reply again, i do certainly have a ccj (not that i knew about it) but on this occasion no i am just looking at my over all problem, my debt was mainly credit cards and door step lenders.

As for the CCJ as silly as it sound im to scared to phone the court relating to the CCJ to find out what it is for.... is there any other way maybe? How does a CCJ work i understand it stay on file for 6 years but will they still chase me for the balance, as of yet though, nothing !!

No other way apart from asking the court for details.

Stays on the register and credit reports for 6 years. Can still chase you for the balance. If they have not bothered to try to enforce it in over 6 years then they would need permission again from the court to do so, which they might not get if they don't think they have a good reason for not trying.

    Hi stu82

Contacting the court for details as Fermi suggests isn't going to automatically "tip off" the creditor, if that's what concerns you. The court certainly isn't going to rush off to let the creditor know - it's up to the creditor to chase the debt. Do feel free to get in touch.
