O/S Daily Tuesday 28th April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, clear sky and sun shining, air feels chilly though, may have been a touch of frost.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly, so he can ready for school.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, peas/green beans and salad. We needed to dig the gas bbq out and make sure we had all the bits and wanted to give it a quick test to make sure everything was working ok – so DH cooked the gammon on it last night – all very nice, so another recipe to add to the bbq collection. Tonight we will be having smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with a crème fraiche sauce. Cake or ice cream was the dessert choice for last night, tonight it will be ice cream or HM apple and mincemeat strudel with ice cream/custard or nat yogurt/LO crème fraiche. The jam and cream Victoria sponge didn’t last long, the menfolk finished it off last night, but it was very much enjoyed. Hoping to start getting more HM baking/cooking done on a much more regular basis again.

Work yesterday was a strange day – we were busy in the morning, but either all or nothing in fits and starts, but then in the afternoon it really went quiet so we’re not really sure what’s happening from one day to the next. I’m working at the other office today so I’m thinking the phones will be busy – so we’ll see.

I need to send a couple of emails for DH tonight – so must remember to do that.

Car insurance renewal for the big car arrived yesterday – and is slightly lower than what we were paying last year – not very often that happens! Will be checking on the website to see if I can get a lower quote though!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Wet and miserable here, washing will go on the airer, I think line drying is off for the next few days at least. Yesterday it rained, sleeted, hailed, the sun shone and the wind blew - couldn't keep up with it!

Woke up just before 6 so the WM and DW are on and I'm making lentil soup (yes, it's that cold). Boiled the ham hough last night so the stock was ready to be skimmed. Had curry last night, sauce from a jar and pilau rice from a sachet - nice and easy. Jamaican red bean stew for tea tonight, will do that when I get home.

I realised last night that this house is filthy, I think it's mainly the dust from having the stove fitted that has now settled so will do a room each night. The living room curtains need to be washed but will wait till the better weather again.

Hope Docky had a happy birthday!
    Elona - Thinking of you.
    Csarina - Any word yet?

Special hugs if you are feeling under the weather. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Yesterday was miserable and very cold. It's like we had travelled back in time and landed back in winter. We founds a load of new draughts in the living room.

I booked my hotel in Brisbane for my August visit, only five nights in the city centre before going further out for the family stay. My sister in law is meeting up with my for a few days which is great.

Today I have to do some planning for my first six week run of teaching night class which starts tomorrow night. I'm really looking forward to it.

Food is usual breakfast with something salady for main meal. I made a load of little egg and bacon mini pastry free quiches. Saw some in a food store (which sells mostly clothes) which cost something like £4.00 for two tiny ones. I'm going to experiment with different ingredients later this week. They are useful, easy to make and tasty.

    Enough...need to start morning ablutions.

Camelot - did you sort out your glass?

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

    Good morning everyone

It's a bright and sunny day here this morning. I am supposed to be going out around 12ish with my community support lady but I've gone blank and can't think of anywhere we can go. I suppose we can always drive to Westward Ho! and look at the sea.

Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready to leave as well. I will be continuing with a clear up as I've noticed lots of places in the house where stuff has just been dumped, time to be ruthless I feel :D.

I think we will have chicken kiev, mash and green beans tonight. I'm still trying to eat mostly from the freezer especially as I forgot I have a musclefood meat delivery coming tomorrow. My eldest said she has room in her freezer if necessary so hopefully it won't be a problem to store it all.

I hope everyone is ok, hugs to all who would like one, take care xx

    Morning all,

Another bright and beautiful day here and quite warm everything in the garden is going mad, its so nice to see.

Off to work today and we have a conference to get ready for so it will be a busy day.

Something with mince for dinner might do a spag bol or a chilli or a curry type dish, still got loads of mushrooms to use up so whatever it is will contain them.

Elona I do hope you are ok, we are here if you need a shoulder to cry on xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

Tru - sounds like scampi personality is coming through nicely. Our parsons is definitely a high maintenance dog, in and out the garden like a yo yo.

Coming through?! It feels more like a sharp shock – “Surprise! This is the real me! Didn't expect that, did ya?” :rotfl: He yo-yos in and out of the garden too, especially between 3pm and 6pm. I leave the door open then, and get on with things in the house. He appears silently behind me and I almost fall over him :D

It was so cold last night. We were outside at 9pm, cutting up fleece and covering the strawberry plants and everything in the greenhouses. Must remember to uncover it all this morning :D It's sunny this morning but still very cold.

The second load is in the washer, it should all dry outside today. I'm going to have to shut Scampi in one room while I zoom around with hoover, he still attacks it. I have a Henry, I like to think he doesn't like it's face :D

I crocheted with an uninterested dog next to me :T :D I think it's safe to go back to making small blankets without the yarn being attacked and tangled. Happy days :D

  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

No news re a flay as yet, not really expecting anything for a couple of months at least.

We were forecast rain, but it is sunny, the wind has changed direction though, coming from the North, amy be we will get snow!!! uurrggg I hope not.

No laundry all done and dusted yesterday. No idea what I am going to do this morning, might wander up the garden and take the heads off the daffs that have gone over. Who ever moved into the house after us will have a good show of daffs in the spring.

Need to make shortbread, SIL visiting on Thursday, 'just for a quick cup of coffee', Hmmmm that'll be the day. I have my quilting group in the afternoon, so she will get chucked out at lunch time. LOL!!

    Morning all,

Sunny and chilly here. Towels blowing nicely.

Been tidying up lots of loose bits and pieces that have been left for another day. Popped into Wilkos to pick up a few things and have just realised it is now actually called 'Wilko'. I still thought it was 'Wilkinsons', shows you how much notice I take!

    Thinking of you Elona.

Have a good day all :)

    Morning Ladies and Gents,

Quite chilly this part of the world, the sun does keep trying but absolutely nothing like it was last week- it seems we are back to winter!
At work but only for the morning, plenty to do from home this afternoon tho. Will pop WM on later but won't be risking it going outside, we are forecast rain around school-run time :-( Will take the dog for a quick wander and that should keep her happy enough for me to get on with chores this evening.
Dinner will be something quick- Jackets with cheese and green veg, possibly use up the slices of ham we have in the fridge.

Right, have good afternoons all xx
