Credit Card for strange situation

in Credit cards
This may seem a strange situation but I am wondering how the best way for me to apply for a Credit Card for occasional purchases for my unique situation.
Here is the problem I am disabled student with a regular income which is less than the minimum income limit for a normal credit card so the banks don't want to know because I am a student.
At the same time they say I can apply for a student credit card as long as I have a student account with them, having a student account though wouldn't be in my best interest as many of them have a limit on the amount of money you can have in them and force you to use that as your main current account by setting a minimum number of transactions per month which would mean less interest for me and because I like to have two current accounts which I use interchangeably I wouldn't have 1 "main account". Also student accounts are designed for people with regular overdrafts which don't fall into the category of. The offer of a free 16-25 rail card is also getting a bit old now as I keep informing them I have a Disabled Railcard which works out better for me anyway.
What would be the best solution for me in this as I would like a credit card for things such as security for large purchases and for using as a guarantee for incidentals at hotels when I am away (long story) but I can't apply for a regular one or a student one because of Bank Policies.
Cheers to anyone who can help.

Hmmm, yes this made me think.....
Well the fact you are disabled, should not impact on your ability to get credit...
Indeed, I don't think it does, I can't recall a 'Are you disabled ?' question when applying for credit, so you should be treated like anybody else.
So if we take that and your question is reduced to 'I am student with a regular income which is less than the minimum income limit for a normal credit card..... I would like a credit card for things such as security for large purchases and for using as a guarantee for incidentals at hotel.'
The answer is to use the MSE's credit card checker https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/credit-cards/
I know this may not be the answer that you want, but it all comes down to income and risk on the credit card providers side...

I think you are misunderstanding the meaning of 'main account', in fact it doesn't really have any set meaning. All you need to do is stick to the requirements of that account, there's certainly no need for you to keep all your money in it, if you can get better interest elsewhere (which you definitely can) then just move the money around between accounts every month to meet their funding requirements. Many of us on here do that with a lot more than two accounts.0

Which credit cards have you applied for but been declined by?
A lot of cards don't have a minimum income level.
In terms of section 75 purchase protection - then there is a particular prepaid card that offers this, which would solve that part of the problem if you cannot get any credit card.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Is it possible to get a Santander Credit Card with a student account there? They say it opens up access to 123 services they don't say if that includes cards.0

Possible but unlikely unless you have a lot of savings with them and a lot of money going into the account to meet the income requirements.
I think the chances would be better with another non-student account (I still have a student account despite not being a student), but the 123 account doesn't accept students last time I checked and other ones are no longer available0
