Bus pass etc

My wife was 60 last November and was wondering if she is entitled to a bus pass?

I'm 59 myself and I have friends a bit older than myself who still work yet hold a bus and train pass and have had them since they turned 60.

Kind regards Brodie.

Hi free prescriptions come at 60, bus pass and winter fuel allowance kicks in when we reach state retirement age.
  • It can depend where you live. Within Greater London you can apply for an over 60's pass which costs £10 and is the equivalent of the Freedom pass for those of state retirement age.

    Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.

If you live in greater London, she can buy a 60+ London Oyster; it used to be a one-off charge of £10 and enables the user to travel within greater London for free.
  • Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately we don't live within the London boundary but Greater Manchester.

*From 6 April 2010 the eligibility age for the National Concessionary Travel Pass (NCTP) changed to mirror the state pension age. This means the earliest date on which you can get your Pass will depend on when you were born and, if you were born on or after 6 April 1950, this date will be later than your 60th birthday. For men the eligible age is the pensionable age of a woman born on the same day. Find out full information from the Direct Gov website State Age Calculator here or use the quick check list below to see when you will become eligible for a bus pass. "

That was a nice wee parting gift from the Brown government, eh? I suppose he thought most people wouldn't notice in the run-up to the General Election.
Free the dunston one next time too.
