Serious question!!!!! and possibly good suggestion!!!!

I am off to Florida in 3 weeks and have already had a good money saving session by booking it all through Expedia and managed to get the whole cost including accomodation, flights (with Virgin), car hire and park entry...for a total cost of £2350 for two people..............which I thought was pretty good.

I have also got myself a contact in the currency world (my occupation) to get me £3000 at a rate of 2.0264...again I thought pretty good). Then taking info from this site, I have gone along and got myself a Nationwide Credit and Debit card to make withdrawing any extra money needed (unlikely I know) and purchases whilst there as cheap as possibly (removing commision and rate loading.....)

I then started looking at some webistes to compare UK and US prices and mainly stuck with Amazon. I have now discovered that I can order goods from the UK using a UK credit card, paying in dollars, and have the item shipped to an addrress in the US (one of the hotels I will be staying in). And on a few of the items, it is working out as dollars for pounds (ie £129 instead of £129).

So the final thing from me is a question.......

If I were to use my Nationwide credit card for these web purchases... would I benefit from zero loading on exchange rates and nil commision, or would this only make a difference in physical purchases.......suggestions and comments welcomed....

J

If you make a purchase in foreign currency using the Nationwide card (either in person or online) there will be no fee.

I am sure I do not need to tell you that you would still have to pay VAT and duty on goods brought back to the UK if they total more than £145.

Of course...totally understood on that part, but hopefully will only be one of two items

Fair enough! ;) It is worth noting that you get the £145 allowance per person.
