Bt Sport Default

Hi,
After some advice on where I stand. I took out bt sport through my sky box in july 2013, after a couple of months I decided michael owen was dreadful and wanted to cancel. I rang bt in spet 2013 and spoke to someone and then cancelled my direct debit. I heard nothing from bt until January 2015 when I got a bill for 245 quid. It has taken me a while but today I got put through to a guy who gave me my final answer. They say that I didnt ring to cancel and they don't care that they didn't receive a payment from sept 2013 - they still have the right to charge me. They have sent me a letter threatening a default unless I pay. As far as I am aware I didnt have the service on my sky box after I cancelled - didn't tune to that channel.

I'm wondering where I stand, I don't want a default but I dont want to spend 245 quid on something I didn't want or receive.
Any help is gratefully received.
Thanks

BT Sports terms and conditions are very clear:

"Ending the Contract for BT Sport
    1. If you or we end this agreement, we will block further access to BT Sport at the end of your notice period.
    2. Once we have provided you with access to BT Sport, you may tell us to stop providing it at any time. Your BT Sport contract will end 30 days after the date you told us to stop providing the service. We will continue to charge you the agreed monthly subscription fee until the date that your BT Sport contract ends and if you are still in a minimum term for BT Sport you will have to pay early termination charges."
  • The point is that they are disputing that I told them. So, if push came to shove would they be able to prove that they had no idea I had wanted to cancel despite them being fully aware that no DD was set up

Contact your phone provider and see if you can get the call records: it may help, especially if they record calls themselves which many companies do.
"You did not pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You were lucky enough to come of age at a time when housing was cheap, welfare was generous, and inflation was high enough to wipe out any debts you acquired. I’m pleased for you, but please stop being so unbearably smug about it."
