TRYING to get a new phone contract!

OK, so old phone contract has now expired, time for a new phone...
Pop into Car Phone Warehouse and after much faffing about on their computers systems, the credit check was DECLINED on the basis the card used does not match our address.
Hmmm
Moved home in November of last year, but bank was informed of this 1 week after moving in. Went to bank to check address and yes, what we gave them is indeed the correct address as reflected in their records etc.
Back to Car Phone Wearhouse, same problem... DECLINED. Chap tried re-entering details... DECLINED, but now on the basis of a failed credit check?!?
QUESTION: Does anyone know WHAT information is used and by WHOM, e.g. are they using Experian to do these checks? If so, how does one go about ensuring these checking companies have the correct info? Chap in the shop did not know, and he did try his best but was stone-walled by his computer system.
FWIW, correct name / address etc appears on the Electoral Role
Cheers,
Andy & Sue

for a free credit report. All you need. Might give you some insight into whats going on, showing you what creditors have what addresses assigned etc. Was you trying to use a credit card? E.g. a barclaycard and checking your address at your barclays bank. These can be two different things.
It might not even be specific to your addresses not matching, it might just be issues to do with your credit. Get a full understanding of your credit before applying for anything else, you're just going to make it worse otherwise.

OK, thanks chap.
FWIW, we don't use credit cards, only debit cards. Also, nowt wrong with our credit, but how that is rated is a different matter of course. And of course, even though these checks are made against 'our' data we are not pertinent to this 'data protected' information & cannot therefore investigate the root cause! Stupid state of affairs really.
I read on this excellent website that these credit scores etc. are not 'real' and individual companies make use of differing sources of data to rate applications.

You need to get copies of your credit files (not your credit scores), as that is the data that the potential lender is assessing.
For a full picture you need to look at all 3 credit reference agencies, as you don't know which a potential lender may search. But starting with the free callcredit report from noddle is a good idea.
Then you can get your statutory reports (£2) from experian & equifax.
You say you are on the electoral roll at your new address? Do check that this is correctly showing on your credit files.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Carphone warehouse have now performed three full credit searches on you. I am guessing the last one failed because to many searches have been conducted in a short period.0

If anything, it's the complete opposite, banks and lenders need to be more careful about finance now, applying for multiple accounts in quick succession smacks of either desperation or fraud (even though in your case there was a genuine reason) - scammer with your card could be trying to get a couple of expensive phones and run off with them before you cancel it - so the system works to protect you.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
