    And make sure you have a back up card in the event Halifax block your card for pre loading it.

    It was over 9 years ago, but the same condition existed then, as it does now, namely "thou shalt not pre-load".

    As zx81 says, if you're a gambler, make sure you have a couple more cards to fall back on.

    If you're able to pay off what you withdraw within a week or so, the amount of interest is peanuts. Perhaps 30p on £100 withdrawn.

    30p is 30p, of course. But is it really worth breaking the T+Cs for? If it causes a block, the cost of a phone call or using a less competitive card could far outweigh that.

    Agreed. If you can access the internet and log in to your account it will even show pending transactions, so you can send money to pay it off before the charge even formally appears on the bill. There have been times when I've bought something overseas, jumped on the banking app to see the UK pending transaction in GBP, and paid it off straight away.

    It's only with cash withdrawals that daily interest is charged right away, so doing that for overseas purchases is rather pointless, especially if you're on holiday.
