Using Kwik Fit for a service - maintaining warranty.

My Peugeot 208 is coming up to 1 year old now so I am looking where to take it for a service to maintain its warranty. Kwik Fit have quoted me almost half what the local dealership are quoting and the guy on the phone said it will maintain my warranty. So It sounds too good to be true!

Anyone got any experience they can share? Are there any catches?

I would not trust my 12mth old car to a set of semi skilled monkeys that don,t give a a toss about there customers or there cars.

did you have a garage that you took your old car to? , who do your parents/children / workmates use ?

please find a good independent garage locally to you , that friends recommend ,

because in a week or two you are going to be on this forum saying how you were overcharged / mis sold and conned by kwik fit

They quoted half but they do not have the expertise or equipment that your main dealer will.

Also you may find that the price quoted wont cover a lot of the stuff a main dealer will.

Big mistake taking it to kwikfit.

Strictly speaking, any vat registered garage that performs the correct service, using parts of equal or better quality than OEM will maintain the warranty. However, I really would think twice - your dealer will have access to any service bulletins/software updates needed.
More importantly, if the worst happens, and you do have a warranty issue, you're opening up a potential can of worms if kwik-fit have missed any aspect of the service off.
Also, if you intend to keep the car beyond the warranty period, you will find the manufacturer much more inclined to offer goodwill towards any out of warranty repairs if you have dealer service history.

In a nutshell, I would bite the bullet, and pay the dealer (but shop around if there is another close by), certainly for the first couple of years

The chances are that krap fit will use the cheapest parts they can lay their hands on to keep the price down. Dealers will be well aware of this and already try and avoid warranty claims. Why give them ammunition ?

Mine has the tires/interim oil changes done at a local garage, but a full service each year at the main dealer.

Qwik Fit can't be trusted IME; far more worthwhile using a local reputable place than one of the chains.

I'm always puzzled by threads on forums that ask such as this.

Surely if you have spent many thousands on a new car you can manage the difference in the cost between the cheap service & the dealer service.

Since 2002 I have had three brand new cars & two nearly new cars. All have been serviced via the main dealer, although for brake pads & discs I have gone out of the dealer network.

All have traded in well & the full history always goes down well.

For the sake of maybe £100 or so a year I will stick the main dealers.

I used to wonder this, but then I remembered that most people buy on finance or hire purchase. In which case you have to question the wisdom that started it all.

Notwithstanding the advice to continue to use the main dealer for servicing due to it being only £100 per year or so, providing the independent garage or KwikFit downloads and uses the manufacturer's service schedule AND uses genuine parts AND you clear it with the main dealer IN WRITING, your warranty should not be voided. I have done this with my cars with no problem, although I am lucky in that I have a local independent that I have used for over 20 years.
  • I've used KwikFit once for a replacement tyre. Never again. I don't even consider them a proper garage to be honest and I certainly wouldn't use them for a service.
