Do I have any rights?
I purchased a 2008 Suzuki swift last august 2014. I have recently noticed problems with it. The main problem is the gears not working properly. When I select 1st gear it goes into 3rd gear instead.
What I am wondering is do I have any rights to get the garage to repair it or is it completely up to be to bear the cost?

9 months with no trouble, so its upto you to fix them its 7 yrs old, probably not kept up with the maintenance schedule and is now starting to suffer. Find a decent specialist, or indy garage to take it to.I purchased a 2008 Suzuki swift last august 2014. I have recently noticed problems with it. The main problem is the gears not working properly. As above, 9 months trouble free motoring would strongly suggest the problem wasnt there at the time of sale - and it would be up to you to prove IT WAS after nine months.
Chances are its a linkage problem and a cheap fix.0 -
Thanks for your quick replies. If it is a linkage problem like Paul suggests how much do you reckon it should cost?
I don't know anything about cars so I would most likely get done going to a garage.0 -

Therw are loads of Suzuki Swifts on the road.
The later model as in the OPs case is a good little car.
The older one not so much.0 -
Is it me, but there seem to be an growing number of posters recently buying cheap old cars, whether from dealers or privately, and then seemingly expecting any issues up to 2 years down the line to be still the responsibility of the seller, whether bought with a warranty or not?No free lunch, and no free laptop

This appears to be a common fault with Suzukis, which the dealer will deny, and you either strip the linkage and put in a replacement bush, which will wear out again, or have the modified, newer gearbox linkage installed.0

Think it's some sort of extension of the nanny state culture . . .
+1
Its the fault culture in the UK. Its always someone elses fault. Noone ever seems to take ownership these days.0
