The point I made to Aldi is that EVERY CUSTOMER has to pay for the dead plants. No sale = Aldi loses the wholesale cost, therefore the loss goes against profits (just as if the item is stolen), which reflects in the cost of other items they sell.

Not if they are on sale or return .

But every customer has to pay for the losses on all goods if you take the above point of view .

Whilst a business is trading normally, all losses and inefficiencies are paid for by the customer.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • I have never bought any from Aldi or Lidl, but I have actually bought half dead plants in HOMEBASE, (with like, 70% off,) and within 3-4 weeks, they often comes back to life.

I think HOMEBASE really look after their plants well. :)
that'll be why they were half dead right?

But they gain in staff time not wasted watering and cleaning up the mess.
Best tip I had from a gardener-buy half dead plants, perennials , from b & q in September

The plants are supplied on capillary matting. How long does it take for someone to tip a gallon ... Sorry, don't want to upset the europhiles as well ... to tip 4.5 litres of water on each tray at the end of the day? It only needs doing once every 3 - 4 days.
If Lidl can find the time, so can Aldi.

I see that wouldn't appear difficult, butifit's a badly managed store and the staff are overworked , It doesn't really compare to a well managed store.

We have bought numerous fruit trees from Aldi (or "sticks" as we refer to them) and had nothing but success.

A lemon tree, planted last year and barely higher than my knee, has produced a crop of around a dozen misshapen, but beautifully flavoured fruit and both a cherry and a peach tree planted last month, despite the assertion of our professional friend that they would not bear fruit in the first year, are already laden.

My local Wilkinsons is very bad at looking after their plants. They are displayed in metal shelving units which are placed inside the shop doorway. This is dark so the plants get very little light and they're never even damp, I think they must forget to water them at all. The ones inside the store never seem to see a drop of water either, they are always half dead. I had to stop my mum buying a load of plants there the other day, because she "felt sorry for them" :rotfl:

Mind you, I picked up a couple of their packs of seed potatoes last year, for 10p each. The potatoes were all wrinkled and had started to sprout but I chucked them into a potato grow-bag anyway and they were fantastic, I had a very good crop.

Yes I can imagine the television appeal now...

"Everyday..somewhere in Britain a plant will half die through neglect in a supermarket.. You can make the difference... Text £3 to the 'National Half Dead Plant Appeal' and we will use this money wisely.

£2 will by a watering can so these plants can be saved..
10p will by a photocopy of a sheet on how to water plants to keep them alive.

Please donate now and don't let that plant die in vain"
