poor mpg, should I be worried?

As mentioned. Filling in small amounts is not accurate. You need to keep a log of every fillup and mileage to get an accurate idea of the mpg.
Are you using a US fuel calculator where a gallon is sub 4 litres?
As above 39mpg is closer to your true MPG. So not that bad for that particular car.
Are you sure those tyre pressures are correct? 41psi in a car that barely weighs 1 ton seems very high.
8.61 miles per litre @ 4.54 litres = 39.08 mpg
8.61 miles per litre @ US 3.8 litres per galon. 32.7mpg (they cannot spell gallon either)

They can spell gallon OK, it's "liter" they have issues with.forgotmyname wrote: »8.61 miles per litre @ US 3.8 litres per galon. 32.7mpg (they cannot spell gallon either)0 -
it'll be better if we could all change to metric!0

Check your air filter.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I'd be interested in seeing emissions readings. MPG on a 4yr old 1.2L engine sounds awful. I get 44mpg from a 15 year old petrol focus with a 1.6L engine
I get 38mpg from a 26 year old car with 1.8 fuel injection and 16v.
Sounds appalling for a small engined car.
I'd make sure the OP is measuring correctly. If the dash is saying 45mpg I wouldn't expect the actual to be so far out.
EDIT - just seen reply above, good to know there was an answer. Still makes me feel better about the MPG I get though!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
use/check your model on fuelly or spirit monitor0

From a fill to fill, mine is under reading by about 1mpg, tbh I don't pay too much attention to the display and MFRS figures as long as they are close enough, currently low 30s around town and mid to high 40s on any run.0 -

I get 64mpg on a run, 52mpg round town, Skoda Superb estate
Never a Mondeo or derv, I like to sprint to 60 or double the speed limit occasionally, so I'm happy with the compromise
