I am half way through upgrading my PC (Just to play GTA V on
)
Ram = 16GB, CPU i7 2.4 OC to 4.4GHz, Liquid Cooled, SSD etc.
It was all working, but it started to stutter on High Resolutions (4GB VRAM Usage). I did a bit of looking online and it stated the 970's have issues with the last .5GB of RAM.
I could have put up with it, but I thought I am best to get another card (Future proof) so I exchanged it for a 290X card which I think was a bargain compared to what everyone else is selling them for (I bagged the last one today)
Originally I had;
I paid £277.99 (Prime Delivery) D&S by Amazon
EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked with ACX 2.0 Cooling 4GB Graphics Card
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NSXYEQW
Then I bought;
I paid £234.98 (Prime Delivery) D&S by Amazon
MSI AMD R9 290X GAMING Graphics Card (4GB, DDR5, PCI-E)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HQJBWIM
And will return the 970 to Amazon.
Was it a wise move, and can you confirm the price paid for the 290X was a bargain? OC and a few others are charging near £300 for this card.
TIA

Whatever you've done, you've done.
Saying your action was good, bad, or indifferent isn't going to change anything, surely?0 -
If it's any consolation, my 5850 plays GTA V at 1080p - there was one on Gumtree for £40 the other day.:D0

I'd have kept the Nvidia, still beats the R290x, uses a lot less juice and runs cooler.
Comparative review here:

What resolution are you actually playing at ?
despite the memory problem, the 970 is still the better card0 -
I'm assuming you have power supply "man" enough to run all that?
I'd think you'd need 750w as a minimum and good quality, not the rebranded Chinese junk.
Also, what have you done GFX drivers wise? Sometimes you need to go back several different versions to find one that works with your system.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
