You can only drive a car without tax if it is to the MOT test centre (to get a MOT so that you can then tax the car).

As for driving without tax - it is on my policy that the car must be taxed and roadworthy for the insurance to be valid - although conducting a quick search on the internet it concurs with what you are saying that this is not necessarily the case!

As for driving without tax not to and from a MOT test centre - well if you get caught then that's your own fault!!!

Yeah its an old wives tale put about by insurance companies to put the fear of god into people. Realistically they "have" to cover the car even with no tax - legally.

When i got my car back in Feb i just taxed it in the post office at the earliest opportunity and back to the start of the current month. No issues at all.

My wife picks her new car up in Belfast on Friday @ 11:00 and we'll just stop at the nearest post office and get it sorted.
