Npower Telemessage Recieved For So Called Money I Owe Them

Hello,

When i left Npower (rip off merchants) i very quickly started getting letters saying i owe them £48 quid or around that figure.

It annoyed me a little because i was on pre payment meters so i can't fathom how i owe them money and how convenient it is that the ordinarily quick off the mark money vultures suddenly worked this out as i left.

It instantly strikes me as a money grab.

What makes it worse is that when i moved into this property i was paying over the odds for my gas because i was paying someone elses debts off. The Npower guy told me i would get the money in a few weeks etc but that was a lie. He was only interested in me swapping my electric over to them so i had both gas an electric, so they owe me money. I also never received the £12 rebate that everyone else seemed to so they owe me that too.

Also, during the switch-over from npower to ebico i remember topping up my npower stick and the meter just ate it and i had to top up again.

How do i play this now? I want to send them a letter and open a case of complaint with them.

I also think i want them to send me my whole energy usage for both accounts since i've been with them so that i can pay someone to look over them and work out if i have been overcharged or not.

They say in the letter it will go to debt collectors or a court summons etc, non of which intimidates me but the thought of getting a default on my credit file would anger me.

Ultimately if they owe me money i'll have them in court no matter how much it costs because i think energy companies are robbing people.

Am i ranting too much.

Any thoughts people? :)

When you move in you are supposed to register for an account with the existing provider and obtain a new card. The meter will then be reset, so you don't have to pay anyone else's debt. If there was debt on the meter when you moved out then you will need to pay what is owing, unless you dispute the billing. Assuming you took opening reads, you will know exactly how much you have used.

I registered when i moved in but i needed gas prior to the new card coming.

As i was on prepayment meters, i never gave readings, i didn't see the point? And i was never asked to give any.

I still live here just changed supplier... i will need them to send me all of my usage info in order to calculate because i have got nothing to refer to. :o

    Hi Nicholas

    Thanks for your post.

It's always worth obtaining start and closing meter readings when you move out of a property, regardless of the type of meter, as it prevents any issues like this from happening. I always take a photo and then I have it for reference in case I need it (also useful with issues such as crossed metering between flats).

I'm aware you've since moved supplier so we'd be unable to confirm any balance on the meter, but if you can get in touch using the details on our profile page, I'm more than happy to look through your account and see what information we hold; I can check what details the meter has been sending through too.

Mark any correspondence as MSE or for my attention so I can pick this up myself.

    Kind regards

    Jess :)
