I think you miss my point, Jhoney. What if everybody in that chain decided to wait until they knew the sale was going ahead? The only person who wouldn't be waiting for their buyer to survey their property is the FTB at the bottom, who may well be waiting to see if their vendor's purchase was going to be going ahead...

This is a chain of 4. FTBs, OP, Vendor buying empty property.

I would speak to vendors ea/sol to advise of the FTB delay and confirm my intention and commitment to the sale. Silence is not golden. If nec or OP loved the house, I would consider having the survey done anyway. But minimal solicitor work!

As a consequence of the OPs previous experience which I read on another thread, I believe the OP is right to be cautious but I agree it generally makes sense to have the survey done on a purchase to satisfy yourself that syou are happy to proceed.

A potential buyer would not have had my property off the market until they had done a survey, but that's just me.

Could be many reasons for the delay, but also because of their position. They could be living at home, running down rental notice period, gone off and bought elsewhere. Noone knows until they make contact. They have spent nothing, so they have nothing to lose.

I was told 10 calendar days ago (7 working days) that I could expect a survey any day.

I think when I had my survey done last time it was about a week after application. It could simply be that the mortgage company haven't arranged it yet although I would expect to have been contacted to have this booked by now.

I will call my EA on Monday to speak to their broker and see if they can shed any light on the situation.

From what I understand my solicitor is still waiting for the draft contract from the solicitor of the house we are buying so things haven't moved further up the chain yet, although it is only a week since the chain completed so I guess it is still very early days.

Update- Have spoken to my EA today who has spoken to the buyer's broker. I have been told that the broker is waiting for the last piece of evidence- a bank statement from our buyer.

It has been nearly 2 weeks and I am wondering why it takes so long to provide a bank statement. It could be innocent I guess, maybe they have asked for this statement from the bank and are waiting for it. Although most people can print one online or go to the bank.

I am being pressed by the EA for the house I am buying as I haven't done my survey yet (understandably) so I have booked to see my mortgage broker to get things moving.

Feeling worried now, EA says they will call me again in a couple of days to say if the broker has the bank statement but just feeling very anxious. I live in a rural area and so it takes a good couple months each time I need to find a buyer otherwise I would just re market my property.

I hope they can have patience until you're sure of your position Loopy. Good luck with it. I think you have been in the process almost as long as me!

If it makes you feel any better, I asked HSBC for two back statements from this year at the beginning of March. I was told 5-10 workings days (what for? Just print it out and post it!). To day it has been 45 working days and counting.

(I found another way to get what I needed out of them, which is why I haven't chased it up, but they don't know that.)
