scottish power metric/imperial

Options
Currently having major issues with scottish power for numerous reasons But last night after looking over gas bills I have been charged as having imperial meter ft3 although I have metric meter m3 installed in the house. Been told by scòttish power categorically I gave imperial meter and that its on national grid as imperial. Anyone else had this hassle ? If I'm correct my bills are far too high and have been overpaying ?

    Welcome to the forum.

Very common occurrence I am afraid; often caused by a meter change not being updated on the database.

SP are a shambles and you would only have told them the meter Number not the type of meter. Situation often compounded by only last 4 digits of meter reading being entered(and ignoring the 0(zero) Your charged kWh consumption will be 2.83 times more than actual kWh consumption.

The meter should have a sticker saying when it was installed. WRITE(don't phone) a letter headed 'complaint' and claim back to the date of the meter install or when you moved in.

Nice little refund on the way then, if you can ever extract it from SP...when was the meter changed?
I'd include a photo of the meter showing the s/n and the metric marking with your complaint letter.
There's an interesting article about SP's ongoing billing system fiasco in today's Guardian Money:

  • Thanks for the replies ! The meter was new installed in June 13. Spoke to a friend who works for SSE says I have a 5 dial metric meter and I'm right in what I say. Checked bills and this has only happend since scottish power have changed there computer systems had so much grief and stress because of this system change its unreal ! Complaint was in about that and sorted payment plan for money I "owe" although now I've figured out I've been overcharged I'll try toget back what I'm owed although I've read and heard it's like pulling teeth trying to deal with that kind of situation

WRITE a letter headed COMPLAINT and enclose a photo that clearly shows the meter's Metric marking
  • David, I have the same problem with sp, 7 yrs ago our meter was changed to the one rate digital meter and sp never updated the records, was told to keep putting our readings online and it will rectify itself, we only have one electric reading but keep getting billed for a night reading, where they are getting the reading from I have no idea. I have mentioned this on numerous occasions over the years and have been told there is no issue are bills are correct, a meter reader confirmed to us that we only have one reading so I complained to sp in March 2014, I have since submitted 2 separate photos of the meter on 2 separate occasions been told on numerous occasions that someone will call us back but no one ever does, our complaint went to deadlock in August last year, the ombudsman cannot help because they say it's been going on for too long, I submit readings and they estimate the bill, charged us £300 for 2 weeks electric when the house was empty due to hols with an estimated reading, then received a letter from the CEO in December apologising for the delay in dealing with our complaint and that we will not be out of pocket and they will not ask for any money owed until the complaint is resolved, they continue to debit our account each month and estimate our bills when we give readings, I finally switched this month due to their shoddy service, I have received 3 bills from them in 10 days for our final bill with us owing them £500 and the bills are estimates even though I have given them our final readings, I have cancelled the direct debit, they aren't getting a penny more from us until they sort this out, but when I ring to speak to them about the complaint all I get is you have left us your account is closed, so all I can say david is good luck, keep on fighting sp as I'm not giving up, don't know who to turn to but if anyone has any ideas on how I can get this all sorted I would be grateful

    Excellent advice,,post #5
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
